Utilities Engineer

Job Title: Utilities Engineer Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid) Employment Type: Contract (12 Months + 1 year Extension Option) Work Schedule: 35 Hours/Week Overview We are seeking a Utilities Engineer to support major capital, infrastructure renewal, and expansion projects. This role will be responsible for utility coordination, technical reviews, approvals, stakeholder engagement, and construction support related to public and private utility infrastructure. Responsibilities Coordinate temporary and permanent utility relocations and installations impacting infrastructure projects. Review utility engineering drawings and submissions for compliance with regulatory requirements, utility owner standards, and project specifications. Collaborate with utility companies, municipalities, regulatory agencies, consultants, and internal project teams. Prepare, submit, and track utility applications, approvals, and design packages. Support the development and administration of utility-related agreements, including coordination agreements, offers to connect, cost-sharing agreements, and NDAs. Participate in technical coordination meetings and maintain meeting minutes, action logs, and follow-up records. Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and utility-related contract changes during construction. Maintain utility records, stakeholder contact lists, and coordination trackers. Support Ontario One Call requirements and utility coordination processes. Required Qualifications Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Municipal Engineering, or a related discipline. 4–5 years of experience in civil engineering, municipal infrastructure, utility engineering, or utility coordination. Strong knowledge of underground utility infrastructure, including water, sewer, gas, electrical, telecommunications, and related systems. Experience reviewing utility-related engineering designs and technical submissions. Working knowledge of Ontario municipal and utility regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders in complex project environments. Technical Expertise Utility Coordination Civil & Municipal Engineering Underground Infrastructure Utility Design Review Regulatory Compliance Construction Support Stakeholder Management Cost & Schedule Control Technical Documentation Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) Power BI Mandatory Certifications Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or Civil Engineering Technologist (CET). Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License with access to a vehicle. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience supporting transit, transportation, or large infrastructure projects. Utility agreement administration and negotiation support. Knowledge of Ontario One Call processes. Preferred Certifications Project Management Professional (PMP). Work Arrangement Hybrid work model within the Greater Toronto Area (Yonge Street or Front Street West). Minimum two days per week onsite. Candidates must have a degree or diploma in Civil or Municipal Engineering and 4-5 years of experience in utility coordination or infrastructure. Mandatory certifications include P.Eng, EIT, or CET, along with a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
