Salary Range ($60,000-$70,000)Reports to: Director of Programs and FinanceMawiw Council Inc. is one of approximately 80 tribal councils in Canada. It is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors composed of the Chiefs of the partnering First Nations: Neqotkuk, Elsipogtog, and Esgenoôpetitj. As a tribal council, Mawiw is mandated to provide capacity-building services to its three partnering First Nations. Our organization receives core funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and project-based funding from a number of federal, provincial and other sources.Position OverviewThe Strategic Opportunities Manager leads initiatives for economic growth by scoping and developing partnership opportunities, developing proposals and securing funding, mentoring staff, and implementing strategic goals to guide long-term economic development for the benefit of Mawiw communities.ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Economic Development· Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy that supports sustainable growth· Identify, assess, and advance new economic development and investment opportunities· Develop short-, medium-, and long-term strategic growth plans, including priority sectors and initiatives· Evaluate the feasibility, risks, and market potential of proposed opportunitiesPartnerships & Stakeholder Engagement· Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, investors, governments, and community stakeholders· Represent Mawiw at conferences, workshops, and events to promote opportunities and strengthen networks· Report on progress, outcomes, and opportunities to leadership and community stakeholdersProgram Development & Funding· Lead the development of funding proposals and business cases to secure new opportunities· Mentor and support staff in identifying and responding to funding opportunities· Oversee the growth and development of economic programs within MawiwOperations & Performance· Develop and manage operational and project budgets· Monitor, evaluate, and report on program and project performance· Maintain accurate records and ensure accountability in reporting processes· Participate in program evaluations and continuous improvement initiativesAdvisory & Support· Provide strategic advice and guidance on economic development matters· Support internal teams and leadership with analysis, planning, and decision-makingQualificationsMust possess post-secondary level education in business or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of strategic experienceKnowledge of First Nations culture and valuesThis role requires flexibility to travel between locations as neededHighly motivated, energetic and creative problem-solvingSolid analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skillsSelf-directed and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary teamMust have a Valid driver's license and access to a carAbility to work under pressure and deal with a constantly changing work environmentAbility to organize and prioritize a wide variety of assignments using independent judgement and minimal supervisionThe physical location of this position will be based on the candidate's place of residence.Criminal record check, vulnerable sector, and child abuse registry checkApplication Submission:Complete applications must be received by or before August 31st, 2026.
