Divisional Overview Davey Tree’s Rail Division specializes in vegetation management along railroad right-of-ways across Canada, from Nova Scotia to Vancouver and into the northern territories. Our work ensures the safe operation of rail systems by managing vegetation that could obstruct rail infrastructure. From April to September, we treat over 30,000 hectares of railroad property, ensuring clear ballast sections for safe rail inspections and equipment operation. Our employees use specialized equipment and are professionally trained to carry out this essential work in both urban and remote locations. This role involves travel across the country in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Position Overview As an Herbicide Application Technician, you will work on railroad property to manage vegetation along rail tracks. Your role involves using specialized equipment to spray herbicides on ballast, mixing and loading herbicide, and operating rail-mounted spray equipment, hose and handguns. You will also read and interpret maps, follow herbicide prescriptions, and document daily work while adhering to all permits and regulations. Job Duties Operate hy-rail spray truck Working on steep slopes and uneven ground. All weather conditions. Mix and load herbicides Understand and adhere to herbicide prescriptions and regulations Assist the Foreperson in job- site setup, cleanup and equipment maintenance. Abide by Davey and Industry safety policies and procedures. Providing excellent customer service. Qualifications Herbicide application experience considered an asset Industrial herbicide applicator license is considered an asset. Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle; air brake endorsement is an asset. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. Valid First Aid certification is preferred Enform or Forest Safety Council training preferred. Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress. Additional Information Full-time, year-round employment.40 – 70 hour weeks paid weekly Wage $18 – $30 depending on qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Criminal record check required for e-rail safe Mostly rural locations. Daily Per Diem where required. Hotel expenses covered while on assignment. Double occupancy Rooms Shifts vary based on scope and location, however, can include requirements for turnaround.
