Job Description Position Purpose summary: The Seasonal Warehouse Support Worker is responsible for assisting with the efficient operation of the warehouse by receiving, sorting, storing, picking, and shipping donated toys and food products. The role involves regular use of manual material-handling equipment, physical labour, and computer systems to ensure donated goods are accurately processed and distributed to member agencies supporting individuals and families in need. Accountabilities Perform shipping and receiving of goods. Loading and offloading of trucks both by hand and using manual MHE. Operate various types of forklifts to move and store goods in warehouse according to warehouse layout plan. Inspect goods received for quality / damage / expiry (use-by) dates; document, rotate, and store stock appropriately to ensure maximum yield is achieved. Build orders of toys as well as skids of fresh, frozen and / or dry goods for delivery. Assist drivers with offsite pickups as well as deliveries of donated toys and other materials. Sort and categorize toys as well as food items. Accurately count and weigh product being delivered or shipped. Assist with inventory reconciliation (Cycle counting). Use Warehouse Management System / Inventory Management System to record / facilitate warehouse operations. Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks of warehouse, yard, and equipment as required. Inspect manual material handling equipment to ensure it is safe for use. Order planning and order release tasks as required. Prepare, complete and submit documentation in a timely manner as required. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ensure all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with TSA, WSIB, CVOR, and all other regulatory requirements. Health & Safety Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Ensure the safe and careful handling and donations etc. while protecting the property, including donations and vehicles. Responsible to use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer. Report any safety issues immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property. Working Conditions Perform other related duties as required. This is a temporary position. Most work is performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to handling garbage, monotony of work various odours. Work involves some exposure to outside weather elements for deliveries and pickups Work involves regular work in freezers and refrigerators with some outdoor work in winter Ability to lift/move/transport up to 50 lbs. on occasion, but regular weights would normally be under 39 lbs. This job requires frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting and kneeling. Wear the appropriate safety / Personal Protective Equipment and maintain a clean uniform. Shifts will vary as operational requirements and follows a work rotation schedule and will include days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Education, Qualifications And Certifications Completion of High School or GED Current Forklift Operators Certificate is an asset Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements More than 1 year of prior related experience Skills And Capabilities Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Participate as an active and responsible team member. Ability to work under pressure, work efficiently, follow instructions, and think independently Ability to represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner. Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution. Attentive listening skills for supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
