Department: Litigation Expected Salary: For articling student hires, the salary is established at $80,000 annually Length of Term: 10 months, August 2027 – June 2028 Toronto Hydro's Strategy, Regulatory and Legal business unit plays a key role in the corporation's continued growth and success. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Litigation and Privacy, you will work closely with legal professionals across the Strategy, Regulatory and Legal business unit, gaining exposure to a wide variety of practice areas and business functions. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a law student to gain hands-on litigation experience by independently managing a portfolio of Small Claims Court files from intake through resolution. The successful candidate will also support the legal team on more complex litigation matters, including legal research, drafting pleadings, and other aspects of case management. In addition, the student will assist with the organization's privacy portfolio, supporting privacy compliance initiatives, responding to privacy-related inquiries, and contributing to investigations and various risk assessments as required. This role is ideal for a motivated student seeking practical advocacy experience and exposure to a broad range of litigation work. This hands-on articling opportunity also offers a unique and well-rounded learning experience in corporate, commercial, litigation, privacy, regulatory and energy law. Throughout the articling term, the successful candidate will contribute meaningfully to complex legal matters through legal research, drafting agreements and pleadings, supporting negotiations, attending meetings and court proceedings and advising internal stakeholders. The program is designed to provide practical experience, mentorship, and broad exposure to legal issues. REQUIREMENTS: Qualified to commence articling in August of 2027 in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society of Ontario, for a period of ten (10) months Demonstrated interest and aptitude in litigation, energy, regulatory, corporate/commercial, or business law is an asset Student advocacy, moot team, legal clinics or other practical legal settings is considered an asset Highly responsible and proactive, with a customer-focused mindset and a proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders Excellent legal research, analytical and writing skills Sound judgment, business acumen and a proactive approach to problem-solving Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
