The Director, Corporate Accounting & External Reporting is a pivotal finance leader at Toronto Hydro, responsible for shaping the organization's financial narrative and strengthening the trust that regulators, investors, the Board, and executive leadership place in our financial results. Leading a high-performing team of finance professionals, this role sits at the intersection of strategy, governance, regulatory oversight, and business transformation. Beyond delivering best-in-class financial reporting, the Director serves as a trusted advisor on complex accounting matters, drives enterprise-wide improvements in financial processes and controls, and helps guide critical business decisions through financial insight and expertise. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of finance at one of Canada's largest municipal utilities—modernizing reporting capabilities, leading through an evolving regulatory landscape, and elevating the finance function's impact across the organization. This posting is for an existing vacancy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the delivery of Toronto Hydro's external financial reporting, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent reporting to shareholders, regulators, and other key stakeholders. Oversee the preparation of financial statements, regulatory filings, shareholder reporting, and other required disclosures. Serve as the organization's technical accounting expert, providing guidance on complex accounting matters, emerging standards, and significant business initiatives. Lead the development and oversight of accounting policies and reporting practices to ensure compliance and consistency across the organization. Oversee financial reporting governance, internal controls, and accounting policies that support the integrity and reliability of financial information. Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes, controls, and systems to enhance efficiency, compliance, and insight generation. Collaborate with leaders across Finance and the business to assess financial reporting impacts, support regulatory initiatives, and enable informed decision-making. Build strong relationships with auditors, regulators, and other key stakeholders to support successful reporting and audit outcomes. REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. CPA designation (Ontario or equivalent) is required. Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in technical accounting, external reporting, audit, or related finance leadership roles. Significant experience within a regulated utility, public company, or other capital-intensive industry is strongly preferred. Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is considered an asset. Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a complex, evolving environment. Experience managing external audits, regulatory reporting, and financial reporting governance frameworks. Deep expertise in IFRS, external financial reporting, accounting policy, and financial controls. Strong understanding of public company reporting requirements, regulatory environments, and governance best practices. Ability to assess complex accounting issues and translate technical requirements into practical business solutions. Comfortable navigating complexity, balancing competing priorities, and leading through change. Strong business acumen, analytical thinking, and sound judgment. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Experience leading change, driving continuous improvement, and leveraging technology to enhance reporting and finance capabilities. Requires a CPA designation and an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience. Deep expertise in IFRS and experience within regulated utilities or capital-intensive industries is strongly preferred.
