Totran Transportation Services is seeking a qualified and motivated Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Calgary team. As a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on our fleet of tractors and trailers. You will play a critical role in ensuring our equipment meets DOT requirements, safety standards, and operational expectations while minimizing downtime and supporting our drivers and operations team. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on tractors and trailers. Repair and maintain: Air and hydraulic brake systems Steering and suspension systems Driveline and transmission components Electrical systems Mobile A/C systems Tires and wheel-end components Diesel engines, including overhauls and rebuilds Identify and resolve equipment issues involving speedometers, power steering, power dividers, U-joints, transmissions, rear ends, starters, alternators, APUs, air conditioning systems, and other truck components. Complete repair orders, inspections, and maintenance documentation accurately and thoroughly. Utilize service manuals, bulletins, diagnostic software, and technical resources to identify problems and determine effective repair solutions. Coordinate with Operations, Safety, and Drivers to reduce vehicle downtime and maintain compliance with DOT and company standards. Assist with warranty procedures and vendor communications when required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to shop efficiency. Work additional hours as required to support operational needs. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications & Requirements Valid Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate issued by the Government of Alberta and/or Red Seal Certification. Minimum 3 years of experience working on heavy-duty trucks and trailers preferred. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of truck, trailer, and equipment safety standards. Experience with preventative maintenance programs and fleet maintenance practices. Working knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle inspections. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with computerized diagnostic equipment and maintenance software. Reliable transportation to and from work. Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement. Knowledge & Skills The successful candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Understanding of equipment storage and maintenance procedures. Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and safe work practices. Experience with recordkeeping and maintenance documentation systems. Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment faults and malfunctions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
