Position Overview The firm is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to play a central role in their financial operations. This position offers significant advancement potential, with the opportunity to transition into a Controller role after one year based on performance. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional who excels in month-end and year-end processes, advanced financial analysis, and trust/general accounting within a professional services environment. Key Responsibilities Month-End Leadership: Regularly prepare, analyze, and complete month-end financial packages, ensuring absolute accuracy and timely reporting for firm leadership. Year-End Preparation: Play a leading, hands-on role in year-end audit/review preparations, working directly with external accountants and auditors. Advanced Data Analysis: Utilize advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, data modeling) to analyze financial data, reconcile complex accounts, and identify operational efficiencies. Trust & General Accounting: Oversee daily trust and general accounting functions, ensuring strict compliance with Law Society of Ontario (LSO) requirements. Financial Reporting & Reconciliations: Perform balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow forecasting, and variance analysis to support business planning. Leadership Development: Work closely with current leadership to absorb accounting operations, streamline firm processes, and demonstrate readiness for future leadership advancement. Core Competencies Technical Precision: Mastery of month-end closures, year-end execution, and data manipulation using advanced Excel. Strategic Growth Mindset: Driven to take ownership of the accounting department with a desire to earn a leadership path over time. Rigorous Attention to Detail: Ensures flawless compliance with LSO trust accounting guidelines and internal financial controls. Collaborative Communication: Ability to articulate financial insights clearly to non-financial partners, lawyers, and administrative staff. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; CPA designation (or actively working toward completion) is considered an asset Proven hands-on experience leading year-end preparations and month-end packages Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (expert in VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and financial formulas) and legal accounting software (e.g., PC Law, Soluno, or similar) Compensation Salary range: $95,000 – $110,000, commensurate with experience Comprehensive Benefits Plan Performance-based bonus structure Why This Opportunity Clear Career Growth: Potential to advance into a Controller role in 12 months based on demonstrated performance and capability Join a reputable, rapidly expanding firm with a supportive and collegial leadership team High-visibility position with significant influence over firm operations and financial strategy
