YOUTH PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR Youth Program Leader is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading safe, engaging, and age-appropriate programs for youth. This role creates positive experiences that support skill development, leadership, teamwork, creativity, inclusion, and personal growth through a variety of recreational, educational, and enrichment activities. The Youth Program Leader provides mentorship and guidance to participants while fostering a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment across a range of youth programs. Qualifications: * Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in recreational, educational, camp, sport, or volunteer settings. * Certification in Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR Level C is preferred. * Post-secondary education, certification, or coursework in Recreation, Physical Education, Physical Literacy, Child and Youth Care, Kinesiology, Education, Social Work or a related field is considered a strong asset. * Background Check: Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months * Related certifications such as NCCP, High Five, Mental Health and Leadership and Certificates are considered an asset. Experience/Skills Required: * Demonstrated knowledge of youth development and the ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate programs, activities, and learning experiences for children ages 13 to 17 years. * Strong instructional skills with the ability to teach, demonstrate, and adapt content related to leadership, volunteerism, health and safety, mentorship, child development and programming. * Excellent supervision, risk management, and safety awareness, with a commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants. Competencies (Soft Skills): * Ability to build positive relationships with youth and foster their engagement through enthusiastic leadership, creativity, and a collaborative approach. * Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with youth, families, colleagues, and supervisors. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment, and initiative. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: * May be required to lift and moves items weighing 30 lbs. or greater. * Works shifts and may be required to be on call at specified times, and overtime may be required during staff shortages, shutdowns or when emergency situations arise. * Physically capable of actively participating in recreational and physical activities, and performing the physical demands associated with the role, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and demonstrating activities for extended periods. Performance Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Program Planning and Delivery * Develop and implement daily and weekly lesson plans that follow youth program curriculum. * Facilitate hands-on classroom based projects that support leadership, program development, mentorship and learning. * Organize group games that promote cooperation, collaboration and foster friendship. * Adapt activities to accommodate youth with diverse needs and abilities to ensure all participants are included and engaged. Supervision and Safety * Maintain a safe, clean and organized activity environment Communication and Collaboration * Communicate regularly and professionally with caregivers about program details, children’s progress and any concerns. * Collaborate with fellow staff members to support a cohesive program experience and share best practices Status: Seasonal/Temporary Schedule: Part-time evening and/or weekend hours that fall between 4-8pm Monday- Sunday. Hours will remain flexible within the general Trico Centre scope of operations in keeping with the needs of the department. Seasonal and/or weekly schedules will be developed cooperatively with the Child & Youth Programs Coordinator/Director to accommodate program needs.
