Maintenance Student Worker

Position Purpose and Summary This summer the maintenance department at TWU is looking to hire a Maintenance student worker. You will serve the needs of campus, providing exceptional work ethic in a professional and timely manner, working cooperatively with other team members. Applicant must have a positive attitude and possess a high level of commitment and flexibility. We will train, but it is an asset to have any sort of maintenance or organizational experience. Uniforms and safety equipment will be provided. Key Areas of Accountability General duties include: * Paint the exterior and interiors of dorms, offices and other areas on campus as required * Protect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job, including carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, lighting fixtures and landscaping * Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler * Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers * Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. * Assist regular Maintenance staff such as carpenters, electricians and plumbers in completing work orders. * Practice self-supervision on small jobs and ensure you complete each project in an efficient, timely manner. * Contribute to the overall success of the Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities or help of full time Technicians as needed. * Must be able to lift and move office furniture, boxes of books, etc. * Pick up and deliver supplies to campus; maintaining receipts for repayment The following responsibilities apply to all areas: General 1. Must be able to accept and follow instructions by supervisor Safety 6. Climbing ladders, operate tools and equipment, including golf carts, according to established safety procedures. 7. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. 8. Store, handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures. 9. Good health and physical condition is necessary. Not afraid of heights! 10. This position requires heavy lifting, repetitive work, and ability to work in all types of weather normal to British Columbia. Other Duties as Assigned 10. Other duties could include working in other areas of the maintenance department to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades or to perform duties associated with light construction projects. 11. Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Services Department Key Interactions Reports: None Reports to: Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Coordinator Job Standards and Requirements Education: 1 year at TWU completed. Class 4 driver’s license desired but not mandatory. Knowledge and Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with a wide range of on and off campus, Christian and non-Christian contacts. Student should be an organized and decisive team player with good physical stamina and strong time management skills. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures and excessive noises. Duties and responsibilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor either orally or in writing. The maintenance student worker will perform general campus maintenance tasks, including painting, surface preparation, and assisting full-time staff with work orders. The role also involves moving furniture, delivering supplies, and ensuring all work areas are kept clean and safe.

Applicants must be full-time students at TWU with at least one year of completed studies and the legal right to work in Canada. Candidates should possess physical stamina, a positive attitude, and the ability to follow safety procedures while working independently or in a team.
