Role Description The Applied Scientist, Process Control is a full-time, on-site role based in Kamloops, BC. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing process control strategies for mineral processing applications. Day-to-day work includes analyzing plant data, identifying patterns and performance issues, and developing models to improve control logic and system stability. The Applied Scientist collaborates with controls engineers to integrate data-driven insights into DCS/PLC systems, supports commissioning activities on site, and documents methodologies and results for project stakeholders. The role also involves ongoing research into advanced control methods, continuous improvement of existing installations, and close coordination with operations teams to ensure solutions perform reliably in production environments. Qualifications Strong skills in Pattern Recognition and Data Science for analyzing plant data and identifying control optimization opportunities. Understanding of advanced filtering and state estimation tools (EKF, UKF etc...) Background in Computer Science for implementing algorithms, working with industrial software systems, and handling data pipelines. Solid foundation in Statistics for experimental design, performance analysis, and validation of control models. MASc or PhD in control theory, chemical, electrical or mechatronics engineering, applied mathematics, or physics. Demonstrated state estimation work on a real or realistically simulated system. Working knowledge of model predictive control. Strong with MATLAB and Simulink. Python. Experience with mineral process, solid-liquid separation, and similar applications is a huge bonus. Canadian Passport or ability to get one Valid driver's license Salary $115,000 to $135,000 +Bonus 4 weeks vacation Benefits. Conference attendance and publication supported. Kamloops, BC. Some travel to mine sites globally. Relocation support available.
