Company: UMATTR Location: Remote; candidates based in Japan or with strong Japanese-market experience are encouraged to apply Initial engagement: Part-time, contract or project-based Focus: Athlete, club, academy and sports-organization relationships The opportunity UMATTR is seeking a culturally aware and relationship-focused Japan Athlete Partnerships Coordinator. This person will help us build respectful connections with Japanese athletes, coaches, clubs, academies, sports organizations, educational institutions and potential programme partners. UMATTR’s athlete work may include storytelling, education, professional development, community programmes, international visibility and long-term athlete-support concepts. Japan’s current sports policy includes international exchange, high-performance sport, regional development, fairness and women’s empowerment through sport, making cultural knowledge and relationship quality especially important in this role. What you may help with Researching suitable athletes, clubs, academies and organizations Preparing culturally appropriate English and Japanese outreach Building respectful long-term relationships Coordinating introductory meetings and follow-up Supporting athlete-feature and storytelling opportunities Exploring education, career and community programmes Coordinating with agents, managers, families and organizations Preparing partner briefs and meeting summaries Helping UMATTR understand Japanese sports culture and expectations Identifying suitable events, institutions and partnership pathways Supporting translation and localization where qualified Maintaining accurate records, permissions and next steps Ensuring athlete stories are represented respectfully and accurately Required experience Professional knowledge of Japan or the Japanese sports environment Strong relationship-building and cross-cultural communication Excellent organization and follow-through Ability to communicate respectfully with athletes and organizations Strong written English Japanese-language ability appropriate for professional communication Good judgment around privacy, permissions and public storytelling Ability to avoid making promises before terms are approved Strongly preferred Fluent or professional-level Japanese Experience with athletes, clubs, academies, federations or sports marketing Partnership, sponsorship or athlete-relations experience Experience in education, community programmes or international sport Knowledge of Japanese professional, university or youth sports Translation or localization experience This is a coordination and partnership role. It does not authorize the candidate to act as a licensed athlete agent or negotiate representation agreements unless separately qualified and formally authorized.
