What We Offer Full -time | Continuing | Fredericton | On campus Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 7:30 am - 4:00 pm or Four 10-hour shifts | 40 hours per week Additional Working Conditions This position requires the incumbent to occasionally work at heights and in confined spaces. Must be able to work under emergency conditions and to multi-task. Salary Range: $34.05 per hour YOUR FOCUS Reporting to the Director of Energy and Sustainability, this position is accountable for the continued safe and reliable operation, maintenance and modification of all instrumentation and controls equipment at the UNB Central Heating Plant (CHP) and steam distribution system. Maintain, troubleshoot and repair all boiler control system hardware including terminal units, UPS, network communications, multi-function processors and slaves, communication I/O modules and power supplies for both ABB DCS and Rockwell PLC systems. Maintain and administer servers, client computers and third party nodes on the LAN system. Maintain the computer system graphics, tag database, alarm management, log generation, control programming, configuration, loop and control tuning, and all other documentation pertinent to the boiler control software, interfaces, and methodology of control. Install process software and perform database backups using appropriate software tools. Assist with the maintenance of the environmental logging function by insuring that all environment monitoring equipment is calibrated on a scheduled basis and that the integrity of data transfer from the CHP control system to the data historian is functional at all times. Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, replace, document and commission field instruments such as steam drum level, flue gas temperature, steam flow, oil flow, feedwater flow, opacity monitors, combustion analyzers, mass flow meters, variable frequency drives, boiler air flow, sonar devices, solid fuel detection, I/P and P/I converters, valve positioners, bubble tube oil level detection, and all other instruments found in an Industrial Boiler Plant. Develop, program, implement and commission boiler control strategies using appropriate and applicable engineering software tools. Configure and implement new control graphics and edit existing graphics on the operator interface using the ABB and Rockwell software packages. Perform on-line configurations as required. Perform combustion tests and make necessary adjustments to boilers for efficient operation and environment conformance. Participate in construction projects and/or repairs work involving the CHP control system, maintaining accurate notes, and interacting with consultants, sales companies, contractors, operating personnel, and other Facilities Management trades. Provide detailed estimates for repair and/or construction relating to instrumentation. Prepare job estimates for labour, equipment, and materials. Maintain and operate the data historian server. Participate in various assigned projects and studies. Responsible for the application of safety precautions as may be required to ensure minimum hazard to self and other while working at heights and in confined space areas. Responsible for the care and preservation of assigned tools and specialized equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. What You Bring Possession of a current Journeyperson Industrial Instrument Mechanic (Instrumentation Control Technician) as recognized by the Province of New Brunswick is essential. Minimum of 6 years' experience in a high-pressure steam plant operation or similar industrial environment, combined with 3 years exposure to an Industrial Distributed Control System and/or PLC Boiler control systems. Additional Strengths Proficient with computers and computer-based applications with a willingness to acquire further knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals, and server technology. Ability to draw, edit, read and interpret blueprints and technical sketches. Ability to interact professionally with technical and professional persons including operating personnel, consultants, contractors, and Professional Engineers.
