Hydraulic Engineer City of Grand Rapids Email Nature of Work The purpose of this job is to manage staff and information to ensure that the City's public water and sewer utilities and private utility services are designed appropriately to serve the needs of the customers. Evaluates existing water and sewer utilities and records and provides guidance. Acts as a working engineer on Hydraulic System Models, Plan Reviews, Asset Management of Systems and Facilities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Communicates information regarding City utilities and services to City staff, engineers, consultants, developers, contractors, and customers to ensure adherence to standards and codes Performs and coordinates the review of public utility extensions or improvements to water, sanitary sewer, or storm sewer systems. Provides guidance to staff regarding private connection issues Provides assistance with troubleshooting a variety of problems and issues Directs, schedules, manages, oversees, and evaluates project engineers and engineering assistants Participates in Rate Study data gathering, calculations, and reporting Evaluates and provides recommendations and guidance on capital improvement projects Participates in asset management and evaluation of condition and capacity of water and sewer utilities. The role manages staff and information to ensure public water and sewer utilities are designed and maintained to meet customer needs. Key duties include performing hydraulic system modeling, reviewing utility extensions, and overseeing capital improvement projects.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil or related Engineering and five years of professional experience in water or wastewater systems, including supervisory experience. A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is mandatory.
