Job Summary The UBC MS MRI Research Group conducts and supports multiple sclerosis (MS) research using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The group supports a large database of MRIs from multiple research studies across research centres and hospitals around the world and is interested in identifying biomarkers for MS clinical trials and treatment. The project involves working closely with faculty and staff and mainly involves data entry, data analysis, participant assessments, and quality control of MRI data for research studies. Organizational Status Research Assistant works within UBC MS MRI Research Group under the direct supervision of MS MRI Manager and Director(s). Collaborates with researchers, coordinators, radiologists, programmers, technicians, and other staff to ensure that study-related tasks are completed. Work Performed Assist in quality control of MRI data for research studies Assist in data entry of collected data into databases Assist in reconciliation of different databases for research studies Liaise with researchers and staff scientists as required Complete documentation and records of data reviewed and approved Attend research meetings to keep abreast of the projects in which other lab members (e.g. Research Coordinator, Database Developer, and Research Assistant) are involved, as well as update others on the status of the incumbent’s own work Conduct participant assessments (scales, timed walking, 9 hole peg test) Assist with other MS MRI analysis projects as necessary Consequence of Error/Judgement Errors in judgement could seriously jeopardize the data acquisition associated with the research projects, which could lead to data being unusable and major setback of research and operational activities. Supervision Received Directly report to the MS MRI Manager. Supervision Given None. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Basic computer literacy is required. Converses with, writes reports for, and creates/delivers presentations to all levels of colleagues and peer groups in ways that support problem solving and planning. The ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. The ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail and to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Provides regular feedback and suggests alternative approaches necessary to ensure that project objectives and standards are achieved. The ability to work effectively independently and with cross-functional teams. TCPS and GCP certifications are an asset.
