It is responsible for the undergraduate core curriculum, student organizations, co-curricular programming, coordination with DU units that serve undergraduates, and related responsibilities. Position Summary The Director of Advising and Engagement provides leadership and oversight for the advising and engagement team within the Student Success Center. Reporting to the Senior Director, this role ensures that advising practices are proactive, relationship-centered, consistent, and aligned with Daniels’ goals for student progression, retention, belonging, and success. The Director serves as a representative of Daniels College of Business to academic departments, faculty, the Registrar’s Office, the Office of Graduate Education, Alumni Engagement, and other campus partners. They serve on committees on behalf of the College, to collaborate and strategize for student success at a central level. To stay aligned with the student experience, this position maintains a minimal academic advising caseload of undergraduate and/or graduate students. The Daniels Student Success Center serves as an integrated hub for academic advising, student engagement, career readiness, experiential learning, and student support. As part of the Student Success Center leadership team, the Director of Advising and Engagement supervises the team of academic advisors, ensures continuity of practices across the team assists with student engagement strategies, and ensures students receive coordinated support from their entire journey through the student life cycle. Essential Functions Advising Team Leadership and Supervision * Lead the advising team supporting Daniels undergraduate, graduate, certificate, minor, and 4+1 students. * Provide day-to-day leadership for student-facing advising operations. * Meet regularly with staff, assist with monthly staff meetings, conduct annual performance reviews, and support advisor onboarding, training, and professional development. Academic Advising, Degree Planning, and Student Progression * Oversee advising support related to academic progress, degree planning, registration, and persistence. * Ensure new deposited students at the graduate and undergraduate levels as well as 4+1 and formal dual degree students receive timely advising and degree planning support. * Coordinate transcript and prerequisite waiver reviews and registration reminders. * Provide escalation support for complex student concerns and advising issues. Retention, Outreach, and Student Engagement * Coordinate retention outreach and follow-up strategies for students needing additional support. * Lead advising-related engagement initiatives that promote belonging, persistence, and student success. * Support student advocacy, academic support, leadership development, mentoring, and inclusive advising practices. Onboarding, Communications, and Process Consistency * Oversee advising-related onboarding processes for incoming students. * Ensure onboarding Canvas materials, dates, registration guidance, Daniels Launch information, and advising communications are accurate and timely. * Lead selected advising initiatives, communications, student support processes, and workflow improvements to ensure consistency across the advising team. Collaboration, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement * Partner with Student Success Center colleagues, academic departments, faculty, admissions, registrar-related teams, career services, and experiential learning, and other campus partners to improve continuity of care. * Assess advising, onboarding, outreach, and engagement efforts to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. * Use data, student feedback, and advisor input to strengthen advising practices and improve student experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to work independently under general direction. * High interpersonal skills. * Ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a team-based environment. * High understanding of advising-intensive, student-centered, and co-curricular program operations. * Able to navigate or learn Banner, Degree Works (audit), Salesforce, Airtable, and additional technological tools. * Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills. * Ability to quickly read, understand, and correct student degree audits. * Ability to identify student needs and customize responses accordingly. * Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously without sacrificing quality or accuracy. Required Qualifications * Master’s degree required in Higher Education, Business, or a related field * Seven to ten (7-10) years experience in academic advising, student success, or student affairs * Experience leading projects, programs, or staff in higher education Preferred Qualifications * At least one degree in business or higher education. * In-depth experience in all phases of student life cycle, including recruitment, advising, retention, career services, and alumni relations. Working Environment • Standard office environment • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate • Noise level is quiet to moderate • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus Physical Activities • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time. • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus. Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work.
