The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Geologist/Senior Geological Technologist to join our Mines Technical Services Team in Sudbury. This is a fixed-term onsite position for 12 months covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers. As a Geologist/ Senior Geological Technologist you will provide geological services primarily focused on core logging, geotechnically logging, and core logging QA/QC. The successful candidates would also have some knowledge or exposure to interpreting results, exploring for additional reserves, and defining current resources and reserves. The candidates could also assist with the designing and implementing drill programs. Additionally, in this position you will: Follow departmental safety program: attend and participate in daily safety line up meetings, monthly safety meetings, required safety training and adhere to site requirements. Geological and geotechnical core logging, sampling, QA/QC Core is to be logged at the site’s logging Facility. Must be physically capable of handling 90 - 330 meters of diamond drill core per day. Individual core boxes can range in weight from 12 to 30 kg. Assist project Geologists in the collection of geological, rock mechanics information and other diamond drill core-related duties. Operation of mobile equipment, as required, to perform duties both on surface and underground (forklifts, utility vehicles, etc.) Communicate changes in ore interpretation to diamond drill geologists. Identify, analyze, and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements. Communicate observed and potential safety hazards to site supervisor. Potential travel to mine sites and underground travel may be required. Possible diamond drill layout creation and creation of wireframes. Carry out specific accountabilities and projects as assigned by the Chief Geologist- Mine Exploration About You Education: Bachelor of Science in Geology, Bachelor of Geological Engineering, or Geological Technology Diploma Progressive eligibility for APGO, registered GIT. Experience: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year’s experience in an underground mining environment. Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Outlook, and Teams. Demonstrated proficiency in Datamine, Deswik. Knowledge of Geological Systems including: AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), LIMS, Diamond Drill Hole Layouts, and M&D (Mineability and Dilution Database). Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining Processes.
