Company Core Values: Human Leadership Ownership Mentality Nurturing Environment Open Communication United Team Renowned Craftsmanship Position Overview: The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of VETS' financial reporting while supporting financial planning, operational analysis, and continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role leads the month-end close process, prepares corporate financial reporting, supports budgeting and forecasting, and serves as the finance super user for CMiC. Through disciplined financial stewardship, insightful analysis, and strong cross-functional collaboration, the Senior Accountant provides reliable financial information that supports sound decision-making and creates value for customers, employees, and shareholders. Ideally, you have a background in progressive accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in construction, project-based, or industrial environments. Responsibilities: Business Financial Reporting & Month-End Close - Lead the monthly accounting close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, financial statements, and supporting schedules. Require Financial Analysis & Business Insight - Analyze financial performance, project margins, overhead spending, and budget variances, providing meaningful insights and recommendations to support operational and executive decision-making. Budgeting & Forecasting - Support the preparation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and financial planning models. Cash Management & Treasury Support - Manage accounts receivable and collections, monitor daily cash flow, prepare cash flow reports, coordinate intercompany cash transfers, and support effective working capital management. ERP & Financial Systems Leadership - Serve as the finance super user for CMiC, supporting system administration, reporting, dashboards, master data integrity, job close processes, and continuous system improvement. Financial Controls & Compliance - Maintain strong internal controls over financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and audit requirements. Project Accounting Support - Participate in monthly WIP reviews, support Project Accountants, analyze project financial performance, and ensure timely project closeout within CMiC. KPI & Performance Reporting - Develop and maintain financial dashboards and reporting tools while supporting the tracking and reporting of corporate and departmental KPIs Audit & Year-End Support - Coordinate audit schedules, prepare supporting documentation, and assist external auditors to ensure efficient year-end reporting. Cross-Functional Finance Support - Provide backup support for payroll and accounts payable , participate in finance-related system implementation projects, and complete special financial analyses as required. Qualifications CPA or CFA designation (or nearing completion) necessary. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related discipline. 3-5 years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in construction, project-based, or industrial environments. Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and budgeting. Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting external audits. Demonstrated experience analyzing financial performance and providing actionable business insights. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis. Experience with ERP systems such as CMiC, SAP, JD Edwards, NetSuite, Viewpoint, Sage, or similar project accounting platforms. Strong understanding of project accounting, WIP reporting, and job costing principles. Experience developing financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
