We exist to increase resiliency and inspire big dreams for Canadian children living in low-income communities by providing inspirational experiences and nurturing personal relationships, one child at a time. In Canada, more than 1 in 7 children live in poverty: in Hamilton, it’s 1 in 4. For generations, poverty has stolen dreams and destroyed futures. At CityKidz, we think it’s time to change that, and we’re recruiting a dynamic frontline team of leaders who will work with us to help kids dream big dreams and reach their full potential. Role Overview: CityKidz is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our team as Cast Volunteers and provide theatrical entertainment to kids attending Saturday sessions. During this time, you will assist Stage Hosts to facilitate inspiration and big dreams in the lives of children who attend our programs. As a Cast Volunteer, you will play an essential role in the presentation of CityKidz studio shows for children aged 6-11. You will have the opportunity to support the performance of show segments through songs, activities, dancing, games, skits, and teaching lessons, to create a fun, dynamic, and immersive environment that inspires children to pursue positive character and big dreams. Key Role Highlights: -Have fun as part of a team inspiring kids on stage -Grow your confidence and communication skills, using your talents to engage with kids -Develop performance, public speaking and communication skills -Be a positive role model Responsibilities: -Participate in show rehearsals to prepare for CityKidz studio shows -Assist with the organization of show materials both before and during a show -Present show segments with enthusiasm and energy -Facilitate show engagement and interaction with the audience -Work closely with fellow cast members and Tech --Team members to ensure smooth show execution Who This Role Is For Students, retirees, caregivers, or anyone who enjoys interacting with kids and youths Anyone who loves improvisational and theatrical presentation and performance Those who desire to inspire kids to dream big! Skills & Qualifications: Experience with public speaking or theatrical arts (preferred) Experience working with children (preferred) Ability to contribute to a program that combines theatrical and children’s ministry components Ability to be attentive and responsive to show leadership and show dynamics Ability to facilitate show engagement and interaction with the audience Ability to work well in a team setting as you collaborate with fellow cast members, show leadership, and Tech Team members in order to ensure smooth show execution Effective communication skills to engage with kids and other volunteers Willingness to learn Ability to work with a team Able to meet the physical demands associated with the theatre production (e.g., standing for extended periods, moving equipment, participating in physical staging) Available and committed for the full duration of the program, including rehearsals and performance dates Competencies & Attributes: Integrity and commitment to the CityKidz Mission of inspiring children to pursue positive character traits and big dreams Tu A passion for children to overcome barriers in their life and to dream big dreams Willingness to learn the skills needed for running an effective CityKidz show Outgoing and expressive Adaptable High level of attentiveness and responsiveness Training & Support Training is provided on an ongoing basis at rehearsals and before and after performances CityKidz Volunteer Community, Appreciation & Support: Lifechanging impact & heartwarming moments 250+ volunteers & 800+ kids & youth throughout the city! CityKidz apparel for all volunteers Lunch + snacks provided for all volunteers for Saturday programs Annual Volunteer Appreciation event Twice a year Volunteer Pancake Breakfast Verification of Volunteer Hours Signed off On Volunteer Years of Service Recognition Advancement Opportunities to Senior and Leadership Roles Child Abuse Awareness and Protection Training On the job and ongoing role trainings References provided on an individual case basis Flexibility and responsive collaborative communication Time Commitment: Time Commitment: Minimum two (2) seasons, equivalent to eight (8) months, for at least 1x a month, but preferably biweekly. Saturdays through March-June and September-December Shifts: Tuesdays 7:00pm-9:00pm for rehearsal, and Saturdays 8:00am-3:30pm for performance Work Environment & Additional Details Environment: Onstage requires ability to go up and down steps.
