International Languages Elementary - Permanent Italian Key Instructor St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centre Applications for the permanent position of Key Instructor - Italian Key Language are being accepted by the International Languages - Elementary Program for St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres. The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region. The WCDSB also operates numerous Adult Learning and Continuing Education programs through St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres. General Description Of The Program IL Instructors support the language learning of each student in a physical environment. They have responsibility related to the program, the students, the parents, the community, and the classroom. The instructors must understand the concepts of equity and inclusiveness in the Canadian context. You will report to the Program Manager of the International and Indigenous Languages Program. General Description Of Duties Supporting student learning, and supporting program success in an in person physical environment for students from JK to Grade 8 Foster a safe and secure physical classroom environment Identify what students are expected to know and be able to do (learning goals) and what it looks like when they are successful (success criteria), and share this information effectively with students and parents Interact effectively with students in person and using different technological tools in an organized and systematic way Explore new solutions, e-tools, platforms to engage all students in a real life, task based, relevant to student experience learning of the second language Be flexible and innovative while planning, conducting and managing a physical classroom Develop long and short-term lesson plans to meet the needs and program objectives in physical classroom environment Using the target language as the language of instruction and communication whenever possible Participating in staff meetings, educational conferences, instructor training workshops, and extracurricular cultural events and activities Collaborate with the school community, parents and other teachers to improve teaching methods and to improve student wellbeing Responsibilities Of Key Instructor In addition to teaching duties, the Key Instructor shall be responsible to: Foster a collaborative, positive, engaging an inspiring environment within the school’s community: teachers, parents, volunteers and community members Assist teachers with needs related to teaching the school’s curriculum in the physical teaching environment Manage positive team interactions including formal and informal meetings focused on the school’s improvement and wellbeing of students Provide support to facilitate selection and development of materials and school’s curriculum Coordinate the flow of information between the Program Manager, Instructors, Site Supervisor, parents, and students as required Assist to arrange for a suitable supply when an Instructor is absent Provide support to maintain accurate and up-to-date class lists of all students enrolled in the school Work closely with the Site Supervisor in planning program and school events and managing a calendar of those events: cultural events, open houses, parent-teacher interviews Community liaison: participating in community cultural events, promoting the language school in the community; participating in the meetings with community representatives Minimum Requirements Fluent in oral and written target language Professional proficiency in English Eligible to work in Canada Available for in-person classes Desirable Assets Professional experience teaching languages & working with children Passionate about different cultures and the power of learning languages Ability to deliver programs in a fun and dynamic approach Degree in child development, elementary education, foreign language education Proven Effective Leadership Skills Location: St. Louis Main campus - 80 Younge Street, Kitchener, ON Program Hours: Saturdays 900am - 11:30am 2.5 hours/week Qualified applicants are invited to submit a resume and covering letter. The Key Instructor is responsible for supporting student learning and program success in a physical classroom environment. They will also foster a collaborative and positive environment within the school community and assist in curriculum development.

Candidates must be fluent in the target language and have professional proficiency in English. A degree in child development, elementary education, or foreign language education is preferred, along with experience teaching languages and working with children.
