About the Project Pape Tunnel Underground Stations (PTUS), a vital segment of the Ontario Line, enhances connectivity, reduces congestion, and supports sustainable growth in Toronto. Webuild, in joint venture, leads this project—constructing 3.2 km of tunnel using advanced technology and two underground stations designed for future capacity, safety, accessibility, and seamless integration with Toronto’s transit network. To learn more about our project: Ontario Line - Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations About the Job We are hiring a Senior Health and Safety Inspector to join our team on the PTUS project. This position reports to the Construction Health and Safety Manager. What You Will Be Doing? Create and implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily. Conduct safety observation reports regularly. Coordinating Health & Safety activities alongside the progress on documents status, monthly safety inspections and compliance documentation completion. Conduct safety inspections Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and system gaps; issue inspection findings and track corrective actions to closure. Verify implementation of critical risk controls for high-risk activities and life saving rules including excavation, lifting, mobile equipment, confined space, work at height, lifesaving rule and tunneling activities. Support subcontractor onboarding and mobilization by verifying required health and safety documentation and ensuring understanding of PNC safety requirements, site rules, and contractual obligations prior to and during work commencement. Monitor subcontractor activities to confirm compliance during mobilization ,ongoing operations, and demobilization addressing gaps proactively and escalating repeated or high risk noncompliance to the Construction Health and Safety Manager, Project Safety Manager and Superintendents. Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe operation. Provide recommendations for improving health & safety in the workplace. Lead and conduct incident and near-miss investigations, including evidence collection, interviews, and completion of root cause analysis in accordance with PNC procedures and regulatory requirements. Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents, and related events. Monitors employees’ including subcontractors and company’s adherence to safety policies and/or guidelines. Organizes routine training on health and safety matters for the staff of the organization. Assist the Project Safety Manager during the periodical audits and associated documents preparation, as needed. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documentation. Planning the health and safety program and protocols. Monitors employees’ and company’s adherence to safety policies and/or guidelines. Training supervisors, managers, and other leaders in the company about health and safety standards. Presenting safety training sessions to the company. Ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal, provincial, and local regulations. Handling risk assessments to gather information on safety issues. Analyzing health and safety data. Reviewing and recommending changes to regular activities. Policy drafting/formulation and administration, dissemination of safety policies within crews, and subcontractors. Keeps record of all safety-related issues within the organization and makes sure that corrective measures are taken. Work closely with the ConstructionManagers, Superintendents, Project Safety Manager and team members to ensure correct and timely closing of the safety issues. What We Are Looking For? 5+ years of relevant work experience in a similar role. Possess a bachelor’s degree in health and safety or any science related field, or CRSP and or NCSO Attention to detail. Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work well as a team and interact with diverse groups of people. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills across all levels of organization. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task in the face of many safety responsibilities/duties. Advanced Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills. ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification Knowledge of safety in construction industry. Knowledge on the process and coordinating without supervision the local safety records gathering from IHSA (COR, WSIB, WSIR, LTI, etc.). Knowledge on the process and capability to follow up the case with the insurance company if workers’ compensation or other type of compensation is required by the injured employee until the case is closed. Understanding of OSHA guidelines, COR principles, ISO 45001 requirements and other federal, provincial, and local safety regulations. Holder of an NCSO, CRSP or equivalent is an key asset. Capability to follow up the WSIB with IHSA and collaborate with the project team in case of incident/accident involving FCC employee until the case is closed. Maintain accurate database and traceability of the incident/accidents and prepare periodic reports. Previous knowledge on organizing and leading the Joint Health & Safety Committee. Knowledge and skills to organize and lead safety awareness campaigns, prepare training materials, and deliver the safety trainings. Understanding the safety KPIs and methods to prepare the KPI reports. Knowledge of construction safety management. Possessing in-depth knowledge of general safety guidelines such as Occupational Safety and Health guidelines is a must. Registration as a Certified Safety Professional or similar form of licensure as a safety officer. Compensation: Successful candidates chosen for this position can expect to earn between $90,000-$110,000. The exact salary you will earn within this range is dependent on the specific project to which you are assigned.
