Reporting to the Journeyman Machinist, the Apprentice Machinist plays a key supporting role in the machining and manufacturing process while developing the technical skills and knowledge required to become a qualified machinist. Working under the guidance and mentorship of experienced machinists, the apprentice assists with the safe and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of machine tools to manufacture various components. What you will do * Assists machinists * Reads and interprets work orders * Follows directions given on work orders and by co-workers * Transports raw materials and finished metal products manually, using hoists or other devices * Sorts metal sheets and parts, scrap metal and other materials * Loads and unloads metal parts from fixtures and moves parts using hand truck or dolly * Grinds and deburrs sharp edges from metal parts using hand and power tools * Operates Fork Lifts, jib and overhead cranes * Performs other duties as required Sound Familiar * Knowledge of general safety practices * General knowledge of basic tools and equipment * Physically fit to lift items weighing up to 20 kg. * Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills * Measurement skills and measuring tools experience * Math and computer skills * Eye for detail and precision * Current Machinist Apprenticeship in progress * Previous machine shop experience is an asset * High school diploma * Crane & Rigging experience or certification is an asset * Milling knowledge and experience is an asset Bonus Round! * Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits package * Company Pension Plan with 3% company matching * Rewards: * monthly incentive program with monetary rewards * service awards in 5-year increments * company/team events * personal growth * career advancement opportunities * Education and apprenticeship support including EI top-up payments Weldco Companies is a subsidiary of IDC (Inuvialuit Development Corporation) and is 100% Inuvialuit owned. The Apprentice Machinist supports the machining and manufacturing process by assisting journeymen in the setup, operation, and maintenance of machine tools. Key tasks include interpreting work orders, transporting materials, and deburring metal parts.

Candidates must have a high school diploma and a current machinist apprenticeship in progress. Physical fitness to lift up to 20 kg and experience with measuring tools are required.
