Role: Senior Python Engineer – Kafka & Unix Title: VP/AVP Location: Montreal, QC Experience: 6+ Mode of Work: Onsite 3-4 days per week Required skills: We are looking for an experienced Python Developer with strong hands-on expertise in Python, Apache Kafka, and Unix/Linux environments. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain scalable applications, build event-driven solutions, and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and high-performance systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Python. Build and maintain Kafka-based event-driven applications, including producers and consumers. Work with Kafka topics, partitions, offsets, consumer groups, and message processing. Develop and integrate REST APIs and microservices. Work extensively in Unix/Linux environments for development, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation and operational tasks. Troubleshoot application, Kafka, and production issues and provide root-cause analysis. Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability. Collaborate with architects, developers, QA, DevOps, and business teams. Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and Agile development processes. Follow best practices for coding, security, deployment, and production support. Required Skills Strong experience with Python development. Hands-on Apache Kafka experience is mandatory. Strong Unix/Linux experience is mandatory. Experience developing REST APIs and microservices. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software development principles. Experience with SQL and relational databases. Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines. Good understanding of distributed systems and asynchronous/event-driven architecture. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Preferred Skills Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP. Knowledge of Docker/Kubernetes. Experience with Kafka Streams or Schema Registry. Exposure to NoSQL databases. Experience working in financial services or other high-volume transactional environments. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
