WSG Energy Services is looking for a Principal Commissioning Engineer to join our team on projects in British Columbia. The Principal Commissioning Engineer interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex commissioning related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Commissioning Engineer may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in commissioning. They must have in depth expertise in Commissioning and a broad knowledge of the commissioning discipline within the engineering function. Responsibilities Planning, Execution & Leadership Report to the Commissioning Manager and assist in planning and execution of safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities to achieve plant production, performance, and WSG contractual objectives. Collaborate within the project team and with the client to maintain positive working relationships. Engineering & Systemization Supervise the development of commissioning home office deliverables for the project. Participate in the development of systemization and system boundary mark-ups. Participate in engineering design reviews as assigned, including: HAZOP P&IDs SIL reviews 3D model reviews Procedures, Planning & Documentation Participate in the development of commissioning schedules for pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup phases. Supervise the development of: Operating manuals Pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup procedures for utility and process systems CSU (Commissioning, Start-Up) spares, subcontracts, consumables, temporary equipment, and vendor services Supervision & Field Execution Interface closely with completions, construction, and client personnel regarding all aspects of site inspections and testing. Supervise commissioning team personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives in executing pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities safely and efficiently. Mechanical Completion & Punch Management Work closely with construction teams for mechanical completion inspections and formally accept systems as ready for pre-commissioning. Participate in system walkdowns, punch list development, and closure of punch items by construction or subcontractors. Continuous Improvement Provide input to the lessons learned database to improve future project execution. Liaises with: Commissioning Manager, Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, Construction/Fabrication Teams, Quality, HSSE, and Client Representatives Supervises: Commissioning Engineers, Completions Specialists, Operations & Maintenance Specialists, Designers, and support personnel within the functional group Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification. 15–20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with a major contractor or consultant. In-depth understanding of commissioning, completions, and training processes, along with general knowledge of construction and operations & maintenance. Demonstrated ability to apply industry knowledge to improve effectiveness, guide teams, and influence processes and policies. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical, refinery, or oil & gas processing facility. Proven experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup on at least three (3) major EPC projects within the chemical, refinery, or oil & gas sector. Skills & Competencies Strong ability to communicate technical solutions and concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to the needs of multiple disciplines. Ability to assess and clearly communicate project requirements and expectations in a positive and productive manner. Willingness and ability to travel to domestic and international construction sites as required. Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
