Date Posted: August 25, 2026 Position Title: Swim Instructor Location: Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre - 9145 Corbould St, Chilliwack, BC V2P 4A6 (Primary) Cheam Leisure Centre - 45501 Market Way, Chilliwack, BC V2R (Secondary) Terms: Part-Time, Permanent Hours: 4-24 hours per week Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Instructor coverage needed on weekdays 4pm-8pm and Saturdays Start Date: As soon as possible Salary: $23.59-$26.08 per hour Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics Nature & Scope YMCA BC cares about raising healthy and resilient children, ensuring youth feel confident and supported and helping people feel healthy and connected to others in the community. The Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment. Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will: * Teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner * Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants * Enforce pool rules and safety regulations * Perform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR when necessary * Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues * Perform routine pool maintenance, as required * Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities * Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff * Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign * Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible * Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices Qualification-you bring: * Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 3 years) * CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year) * YSI or Swim Instructor Certification * Experience as a Swimming Instructor - preferred * Advanced leadership courses are an asset * Demonstrated high level of customer service skills * Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references * Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
