POSITION DESCRIPTION The School of Continuing Studies is seeking experienced professionals in disability case management, return-to-work planning, and vocational rehabilitation to take on the role of Course Developer for its new Certificate in Disability Case Management. Course Developers work collaboratively with the Program Manager and an Instructional Designer to build original curriculum for one of the certificate's courses. This is a contract engagement; all curriculum and materials developed under the agreement are the intellectual property of York University's School of Continuing Studies. The program is a professional, non-credit Certificate built around core competencies in disability case management, including interviewing and information gathering, case assessment and return-to-work planning, and applied practice and professional consultation. Contact hours are the hours a student spends engaging with the curriculum — whether that’s live sessions (online or in person) or self-directed reading and activity time built into the course. As an example, a 30-contact-hour course would be $125 × 30 = $3,750. This rate is fixed and applied consistently across all Course Developers. We deliberately pay by contact hours rather than by the hours you spend developing. This keeps compensation consistent and predictable for everyone, and ties the value of the work to what the student receives rather than how long it took to build. WHAT DEVELOPMENT INVOLVES The process is collaborative and supported by our Instructional Designer throughout. Meetings are held virtually (EST), scheduled around your availability. At a high level: · Blueprinting: a session with the Program Manager to align on the program-level learning outcomes your course needs to support · Curriculum Mapping: working with the Instructional Designer to define your course-level learning outcomes, assessment strategy, topics, and week-by-week structure · Building the Materials – Slide Decks: creating the presentation materials for each class session · Building the Materials – Assessments: developing the assessments students will complete and the expectations tied to them · Building the Materials – Resources: sourcing external resources for students. Your own content is welcome, with the one firm requirement that it be original to this program and not material already offered at other institutions · Check-in Meetings: ongoing meetings with the Instructional Designer, scheduled as needed, to provide updates and guidance throughout the development process TEACHING OPPORTUNITY Development and teaching are separate roles, and Course Developers are not required to teach. That said, once your course is built, you will have the first opportunity to teach it, ahead of any wider instructor search, should you wish to. Instructors are paid at a rate of $114 per contact hour. TIME COMMITMENT Development is a meaningful commitment spread across the build window. How long it takes you specifically will depend on how much relevant material and existing frameworks you’re already bringing to the work — we’d rather talk that through with you individually than put a single number on it. QUALIFICATIONS · Extensive and current professional experience in disability case management, return-to-work planning, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field · Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field. Relevant professional certification (e.g., CDMP, CRTWC, RRP) and/or advanced degrees are preferred · Demonstrated curriculum development experience, or strong subject-matter expertise paired with a willingness to work closely with an Instructional Designer · Demonstrated ability working collaboratively in a team environment, and comfortable meeting deliverable-based timelines with a degree of independence · Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and time management skills · Computer literate, comfortable with technology and proficient with the Zoom platform · Highly committed to student success and fostering a safe and welcoming learning environment · Committed to continuous learning and skills development, welcomes constructive feedback and self-reflection, and produces original content for the program SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION Please submit a cover letter describing your area of expertise and a current resume/CV.
