Job#: 3045725 Job Description: Business Intelligence & Application Developer Contract Mississauga Position Summary The Business Intelligence & Application Developer is responsible for the architecture, development, and ongoing enhancement of a production R/Shiny web application, along with enterprise reporting, analytics, automation, and data solutions that support strategic planning, operational management, and business performance. This role is a hands-on full-stack developer who can independently own technical architecture decisions, application development, data engineering, and reporting solutions. Key Responsibilities Application Development Own the end-to-end architecture, development, and enhancement of a production R/Shiny application, including feature development, scalability improvements, and performance optimization. Design and develop modular, reusable Shiny components, custom modules, reactive architectures, and integrated UI/JavaScript solutions. Apply modern software engineering practices including Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and technical documentation. Containerize and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes while managing infrastructure through Infrastructure-as-Code practices such as Terraform. Integrate applications with APIs, databases, authentication platforms, and security frameworks. Evaluate and drive architectural decisions related to hosting, deployment, application performance, package management, and scalability. Enhance user experience through modern front-end development practices, including React or comparable technologies where appropriate. Analytics & Visualization Design and build executive-level dashboards, reports, and self-service reporting solutions. Develop and maintain semantic models, advanced DAX calculations, KPIs, and reusable business metrics. Modernize and automate legacy reporting processes through scalable, data-driven solutions. Translate complex business questions into structured analytical frameworks and actionable insights. Data Architecture & Engineering Design and implement data models, integration frameworks, and data pipelines across cloud and on-premises environments. Build and maintain scalable data pipelines that integrate multiple source systems while enforcing standardized business definitions and metrics. Work across Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, PostgreSQL, and related platforms to support enterprise reporting and analytics solutions. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop optimized data structures, views, and semantic models. Monitor data quality, identify discrepancies, and partner with stakeholders to resolve data integrity issues impacting key business metrics. Automation & Orchestration Design and implement end-to-end workflow automation from data ingestion through reporting and delivery. Build automation solutions using Python, Power Platform, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Airflow, GitHub Actions, and related technologies. Conduct process mapping and workflow assessments to identify automation opportunities and operational improvements. Measure and communicate automation outcomes through efficiency gains, cost savings, risk reduction, and business impact. Applied AI & Data Science Design and implement AI-powered solutions that enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. Support adoption through user enablement, training, and change management activities. Apply machine learning techniques including forecasting, clustering, anomaly detection, and segmentation where appropriate. Integrate AI capabilities into analytics and automation platforms while maintaining strong governance and responsible AI practices. Required Qualifications Strong hands-on experience with R and Shiny, including designing, architecting, and maintaining production-grade applications. Strong software engineering fundamentals, including: Git CI/CD pipelines Automated testing Modular application design Debugging complex reactive applications Experience with: Docker Kubernetes Terraform Infrastructure as Code Strong proficiency in: SQL Python DAX Experience working with modern cloud and data platforms including Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, PostgreSQL, and similar technologies. Power BI expertise including: Semantic modeling Report and dashboard development Administration and governance Security and Row-Level Security (RLS) Executive-level reporting Experience building AI-powered workflow and automation solutions. Experience integrating data from multiple systems and resolving complex data reconciliation and quality issues. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive technical solutions from concept through implementation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with React or modern front-end frameworks. Experience implementing enterprise-scale automation and orchestration solutions. Knowledge of machine learning and advanced analytics methodologies. Experience supporting executive leadership reporting and decision-making.
