Software Engineer

Appear is building the infrastructure that helps brands get cited by AI: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini. We're early, we're growing fast, and we need someone who can sell a category that didn't exist two years ago. Context Search is shifting. When someone asks ChatGPT which law firm, clinic, or software to use, the brands that get cited win the business, and most companies have no idea whether they're showing up. Appear fixes that. We measure AI visibility, identify the gaps, and build the content infrastructure to close them. You'll be selling a problem most prospects don't know they have yet, which makes this role genuinely hard, and genuinely interesting. Tasks **What you will work on ** Build and ship customer-facing features across the Appear platform. Develop infrastructure that serves content to AI crawlers and agents. Build integrations across DNS, CNAMEs, CMS platforms, APIs, and edge infrastructure. Develop analytics for crawler activity, AI visibility, citations, traffic, and conversions. Improve the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of the platform. Turn customer implementation challenges into repeatable product capabilities. Requirements What we are looking for Three or more years of software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence that you can build production systems. Experience building backend services, APIs, web applications, or distributed systems. Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, or a comparable language. A strong understanding of HTTP, APIs, databases, caching, and modern web infrastructure. The ability to take ambiguous problems from idea to production. Strong product judgment, communication, and ownership. Comfort working quickly and making practical trade-offs in an early-stage environment. Experience with Cloudflare Workers, CDNs, DNS, reverse proxies, web crawlers, AI agents, analytics, React, or B2B SaaS is helpful but not required. Real category upside. GEO is where SEO was in 2004. You will build and ship customer-facing features while developing infrastructure to serve content to AI crawlers and agents. Additionally, you will create analytics for AI visibility and improve the platform's reliability, performance, and scalability.

Candidates must have at least three years of software engineering experience or equivalent evidence of building production systems. Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript and a strong understanding of web infrastructure and APIs are required.
