Personal musical training, competence, and previous experience teaching music will be an asset. An expectation is for the music teacher is to work towards building a thriving arts culture and developing musical literacy in all elementary grades. The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working in a multi-graded environment, collaborating with school staff, and teaching music. The awarded applicant will be knowledgeable and able to work appropriately with the diverse learning needs of students. Additionally, the applicant will be innovative, creative, and demonstrate understanding of the BC curriculum and the district directions. He/she will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment. Qualifications: • Bachelor of Education with elementary classroom experience; · A valid BC teaching certificate through the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Regulation Branch. Teachers applying for this position must also possess the following attributes: · Recent, demonstrated successful experience in an elementary multi-grade setting · An understanding of current positive behavioural intervention strategies · An understanding of trauma informed practices · An understanding of inclusion, the development of class profiles, and universal design strategies · An ability to use data to inform decisions · An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues · Confidence in team teaching and design thinking · Strategic planning and implementation skills · Willingness to work closely with parents and community members; · Excellent classroom management skills; · Working knowledge of the BC Ed Plan, current instructional practices, and curriculum · Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills · Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible The ideal candidate will be expected to: - Design and implement a coherent elementary music program -Collaborate with colleagues -Communicate effectively with staff and parents -Be familiar with the BC Ed plan, school district board goals and school goals -Implement school wide strategies to support student needs -Participate in on-going professional development and develop a personal growth plan -Demonstrate expertise in use of authentic assessment strategies -Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with others in developing school and district-based initiatives -Use technology to support student learning For more information please contact Principal, Dawn Snell at (250) 354-4139 or SD8 serves families in a spectacular, biodiverse region that includes a portion of the West and East Kootenays in southeastern B.C. Salary Range; $68,589 - $114,833 per year, in accordance with the current SD8–Kootenay Lake / KLTF Collective Agreement. Placement on the salary grid is based on qualifications and years of teaching experience as evaluated by the BC Teacher Qualification Service (TQS).
