About Changepain Changepain is a multidisciplinary pain clinic in Burnaby, BC with approximately 75 staff members providing comprehensive chronic pain management services. We combine medical expertise with allied health services in a collaborative healthcare environment. Our IT and Operations team is focused on building automation solutions and streamlining workflows to improve both staff efficiency and patient experience. Position Overview We're looking for a technically curious co-op student who wants hands-on experience building real automation solutions in a healthcare environment. You'll be working on projects that reduce manual work, improve patient communication, and solve operational bottlenecks. You'll work directly with our IT, Operations & QA Team to tackle workflow challenges using AI, automation tools, and creative problem-solving. What You'll Work On Email Automation & Workflow Optimization Build and refine AI-powered email categorization systems using Power Automate and Microsoft 365 tools Currently staff spend 2-3 hours daily sorting emails manually—you'll help automate routing for bookings, cancellations, prescription requests, and general inquiries Create rules, filters, and smart routing logic to get the right emails to the right people automatically Patient Communication Automation Help design and test AI phone automation solutions for appointment booking and patient inquiries Improve our existing appointment confirmation workflow (built in Power Automate) and patient communication tracking systems Research and evaluate new AI tools to optimize our patient experience. IT Operations & Infrastructure Assist with Microsoft 365 administration tasks (user management, Teams configuration, SharePoint setup) Help maintain our internal IT ticketing system and documentation in Microsoft Teams Support IT infrastructure projects including storage management and general troubleshooting Assist with hardware deployment, system updates, and general IT support as needed Process Improvement & Data Analysis Identify workflow bottlenecks and propose automation opportunities Build tracking systems and analytical dashboards to monitor operational metrics Document processes, create SOPs, and help standardize workflows across the clinic Marketing & Digital Content Create and schedule short-form content for social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) including graphics, copy, patient stories, and health education posts Design and deploy email marketing campaigns for patient education, service announcements, etc. Track marketing performance metrics across all channels, participate in strategic brainstorming sessions, and research healthcare marketing trends to support clinic growth Special Projects Explore integrations between our EMR system and other tools. Understanding what's possible and what workarounds are needed Test and implement AI tools such as custom automation bots for specific use cases What You'll Learn How to build practical automation solutions that save real time and reduce manual work Working with healthcare IT systems including EMRs, patient communication platforms, and privacy regulations (PIPA) Microsoft 365 administration and Power Automate workflow development How AI tools can be applied to solve operational challenges in healthcare environments Project management, documentation, and translating technical solutions for non-technical stakeholders How to evaluate and implement third-party tools and platforms in a regulated healthcare setting Must-Haves What We're Looking For Enrolled in a co-op program at a BC post-secondary institution Studying Information Technology, Business Technology, or a related field Comfortable with Windows environments and Microsoft 365 tools Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to figure things out independently Good communication skills. Able to understand and explain technical concepts to non-technical staff Preferred Experience Experience with Power Automate, Power BI, etc. Familiarity with AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot Interest in healthcare technology or previous healthcare experience Short form content creation Why This Co-op Is Different Real Impact: You'll build tools that staff use daily.
