YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER Full Time - 35 Hours / Week Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work Saturdays when needed JOB SUMMARY: Provide focused one-to-one support for at-risk youth to enhance their development of life skills and provide crisis intervention support, as well as working with some youth on probation deemed to be medium to high-risk of re-offending. This position may require some evening and weekend hours. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: * Diploma in Child and Youth Care or in a related Human/Social Services field. * Minimum of one (1) year recent experience working with at-risk youth. * Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance. JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Ability to support youth with developing personal management and life skills to live independently. * To provide one-to-one support to youth in the areas of accessing crisis intervention services, conflict resolution mediation and maintaining healthy family relationships. * Positive communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations. * Ability to use various computer programs to complete required documentation and required reports. * Ability to conduct needs assessments, develop service plans, complete quarterly reviews and discharge reports in collaboration with the youth and the referral source. * Ability within diverse professional terms and environments. * Ability to work with high-risk youth involved in the justice system. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To provide one-on-one support to vulnerable youth to learn basic and advanced life skills required to live independently. 2. To provide one-on-one support to youth to access crisis support and counselling to address conflict resolution, trauma, anger management, mediation, substance use and the development of healthy relationships. 3. Providing support to youth in locations that are convenient for the youth and transporting or accessing public transportation with youth to attend appointments, access community resources and other activities as appropriate. 4. To assist youth to develop individualize service plans to enhance their social and life skills and to make healthy lifestyle choices. 5. To engage with and support youth to engage in healthy recreational activities to increase self-confidence, develop healthy strategies to manage stress and to connect youth to the community. 6. To support youth to remain engaged with his/her family as appropriate and develop the skills necessary to manage family relationships and dynamics. 7. To support youth in connecting with relevant services and community supports. 8. With support from the coordinator, participate and support safety plan development and implementation when necessary. 9. To work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and other Service Providers. Collaborative work includes participation in care team meetings, goal development, regular updates and other additional expectations as required. 10. To work collaboratively with other service providers in the community including participation on community committees, partnerships and presentations. 11. Develop and facilitate life skills, recreational and self-esteem building groups to enhance life skills and social development. 12. To complete all documentation requirements including, but not limited to intake packages, needs assessments, service plans, quarterly reports, case notes, critical incidents, and discharge reports. 13. Adheres to and completes all job duties held in the ISSP job description with relation to held caseload. 14. Provides support and services to Reconnect and ISSP clients as part of the assigned caseload, ensuring their needs are addressed in alignment with program goals. 15. Collaborates with Reconnect and ISSP program staff to coordinate care and facilitate access to appropriate resources for these clients. 16. Maintains consistent documentation and communication regarding Reconnect and ISSP clients, following established protocols and standards. 17. Completes all mandatory training. 18. Performs other relevant duties as required. GENERAL: * Wage rate as per BCGEU Collective Agreement, Adult, Youth, and/or Child (AYC) Worker – Grid 11 (Under Review) - $29.22 per hour plus health and dental benefits. * This position requires Union membership. * This position is open to all persons. * This position requires successful completion of a criminal record check. * This position reports to the Youth Services Coordinator.
