The City of Burnaby is seeking a Dispatch Operator to work on an auxiliary basis. In this important role, you will receive and relay telephone and radio messages, respond to public inquiries, and connect callers with the appropriate department or individual. You will have the opportunity to provide information, exercise sound judgment while following established procedures, and ensure messages and requests are accurately communicated to the appropriate field personnel.You will have the opportunity to play a key role in supporting daily operations by recording and relaying messages, complaints, and emergency information, transmitting radio communications to work crews and equipment operators, and serving as a vital link between the public and City services. You will also verify credentials of visitors requesting site access, issue visitor passes, monitor CCTV systems, conduct security checks, and help maintain a safe and efficient operating environment. If you enjoy helping people, thrive in a fast-paced setting, and take pride in providing excellent customer service, this could be the perfect role for you!Qualifications include the completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related experience in radio communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will bring sound knowledge of vehicles, equipment, materials, and operational procedures, along with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public. The ideal candidate will be able to accurately relay information by telephone and radio, maintain clerical records and dispatch files, and confidently use databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications to support daily operations.Pay Rate: $32.88 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefitsLocation: Laurel Street Works Yard, 5780 Laurel StreetHours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. We require individuals to work rotating shifts on weekends and holidays, plus Monday to Friday as needed.
