The City of Saint John is currently seeking an Assistant Building Inspector. This position will ensure that the construction and occupancy of new and existing buildings, or other property related activities, meet minimum acceptable standards as established by building codes and related by-laws. The incumbent in this position will determine if the work related to the design approved during the permitting process is being completed in accordance with established standards. The Assistant Building Inspector works with individuals to achieve compliance with these standards before more corrective actions are determined to be required. Essential Qualifications The successful candidate will have a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent two-year program. Membership in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (NBSCETT) is required, once the incumbent is eligible. There is a requirement to obtain Level 3 certification in the New Brunswick Building Officials Association (NBBOA) once actively working in the position. The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.
