The Critical Care unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with a welcoming interdisciplinary team who provide exemplary care to the critically ill patient. Critical Care at this site includes the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The Grey Nuns Hospital is also the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre which specializes in vascular surgery and the ICU provides support for these complex vascular patients that may require ICU post operatively. The Critical Care RN provides safe and competent care for patients using critical care knowledge and principles of family centered care. The nurse maintains a high degree of professionalism and works with the multidisciplinary team to determine patient needs and set priorities. Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement. Classification: Registered Nurse Union: COV UNA Unit and Program: ICU CCU GNCH Primary Location: Grey Nuns Community Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: At (UNA only) FTE: 0.80 Posting End Date: 08-SEP-2026 Employee Class: Regular Part Time Date Available: 26-OCT-2026 Hours per Shift: 11.08 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 32 Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $44.56 Maximum Salary: $60.98 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required: 1) CRNA Medication Administration Certificate - https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F 2) NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification - https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0 Additional Required Qualifications: Recent adult ICU experience and/or successful completion of the Orientation Program for Adult Critical Care in Alberta (OPAACA) required. Internal applicants with recent adult ICU experience or who have completed OPAACA will be given first consideration. Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication, stress management, and conflict-resolution skills required. Proven critical thinking, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making abilities required. Excellent assessment, organizational, and documentation skills required. Ability to identify learning needs, seek guidance appropriately, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development required. In the absence of qualified applicants as outlined above, candidates with at least two (2) years recent acute care nursing experience (Medicine, Surgery, and/or Emergency) may be considered. A recent Critical Care preceptorship within the last year may be considered. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete OPAACA, which includes both theoretical and practical components. Employees must achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the theoretical component AND on the final examination to progress to the practical component. Successful completion of both the theoretical and practical components are required to be considered successful in OPACCA. Preferred Qualifications: Current ACLS and charge nurse experience.

Exigences

Requires a Registered Nurse degree, active CRNA registration, and BLS certification, with a preference for adult ICU experience or OPAACA completion. Candidates without ICU experience must have at least two years of recent acute care nursing experience.
