About the Company Our client in the non-profit space is looking for a Director, Business Development & Marketing to join their growing team. This senior leadership role drives strategy across marketing, communications, events, sales, and client engagement. The position focuses on the growth of a professional network of participating companies and long-term retention of those organizations. The role sits on the senior management team, leads a small team of three professionals, and works with senior corporate leaders to increase visibility and strengthen engagement. About the Role: Primary objectives include marketing strategy, recruitment (business development) of new participating organizations, strengthening client relationships, and managing communications and event initiatives. Travel of about 10 percent supports stakeholder meetings, speaking engagements, and industry events. Responsibilities Strategic Brand Leadership Marketing and Communications Strategy Set strategic direction for marketing and communication initiatives. Develop campaigns to expand the network of participating companies. Maintain consistent messaging across newsletters, press releases, websites, and digital channels. Track marketing performance and adjust strategy using measurable results. Event Strategy Develop a strategy for in-person and virtual events. Represent the organization at industry events and conferences. Ensure events deliver value for participating companies and support retention. Position the organization as a thought leader on responsible and sustainable business practices. Business Development Design and execute strategies to recruit new participating companies. Secure sponsorship revenue through financial or in-kind partnerships. Oversee the business development pipeline and annual sales cycle. Personally manage recruitment of approximately 50 companies per year. Deliver annual growth of approximately 12 percent in new participants. Ambassadorship Represent the organization at industry events and executive forums. Deliver 2 to 3 speaking engagements each year. Lead quarterly virtual information sessions for prospective participants. Host onboarding sessions for newly participating organizations. Client Engagement and Support Strengthen the client experience through structured engagement programs. Manage relationships with approximately 20 to 30 key participating companies. Develop tailored engagement plans to address client needs and priorities. Lead strategies to improve retention and satisfaction. Serve as the primary contact for participant service-related matters. Team Leadership and Development Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team responsible for marketing, communications, events, sales, and client engagement. Build collaboration and professional development within the team. Monitor performance through defined KPIs and measurable outcomes. Adjust strategies using data and performance results. Contribute to senior leadership discussions related to strategy, culture, and organizational priorities. Operational Excellence Implement systems to manage engagement and performance data. Use CRM and analytics platforms to support marketing and sales activity. Improve processes related to onboarding, reporting, and administration. Ensure a consistent and efficient experience for participating companies. Identify operational improvements that increase efficiency and service quality. Travel and Relationship Development Travel approximately 10 percent to attend meetings, events, and conferences. Build relationships with corporate executives, sponsors, and industry partners. Maintain strong external networks that support growth and engagement goals. Qualifications Leadership and team management experience. Strong sales, marketing, communications, and event strategy background. Experience managing client relationships and strategic partnerships. Ability to manage business development pipelines and revenue targets. Experience using CRM platforms and marketing analytics tools. Understanding of responsible business and sustainability practices. Required Skills Minimum five years of experience in senior roles in marketing, business development, client engagement, or related functions. Demonstrated success in achieving revenue or membership growth targets. Experience managing corporate clients and executive stakeholders. Experience in sustainability, corporate responsibility, or ESG-related work preferred.
