Manager, Student Programs

Permanent Position – Hybrid Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Legal Talent, the Manager, Student Programs will have responsibility for the Student Programs, including related activities, the main components of which are detailed below, and which are assigned to the incumbent. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Student Programs Student Recruiting: * Coordination of student recruitment including, but not limited to, the law school recruitment program (first- and second-year law student recruiting); * Presentation of Firm educational activities at schools and in-house; * Marketing/Promotion: serve as the Firm’s primary contact for law schools including participating in career fairs and the firm initiatives at the school; and * Oversee all marketing activities related to the student program, including sponsorships and the Firm website. Management of Student Program: * Coordination of orientation, onboarding, secondments and continuing legal education for summer and articling students; * Management of work allocation program for summer and articling students; * Management of the student program budget (including annual forecasting and reporting); * Performance Evaluation: collect, review, and compile performance review feedback for summer and articling students; * Monitor student workload to balance utilization and to ensure best performance; * Coaching/Development: coach and develop summer and articling students; * Contract drafting for interns, summer and articling students; * Develop and manage Student events and activities; and * Liaise with the Ottawa office to ensure collaboration. 2. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) * Assist with the development of diversity and inclusion programs for the student talent pipeline; and * Assist the firm in maintaining and growing its current diversity and inclusion 3. Leading Committee(s) * Student Development Committee; and * Other committees as assigned. 4. Management of Legal Talent Team * Assist with the day-to-day management of professional development team; and * Assist with conducting annual reviews. Required Knowledge and Experience: * Law degree and undergraduate degree (preferred major: human resources, business, accounting, information systems, etc.) preferred * Experience in a law firm required; and 1 or more years of professional development experience, preferred * Outstanding communications skills – oral, written and interpersonal; includes having intuition/common sense working with a variety of people and handling many situations * Ability to manage multi-faceted/complex activities, programs, projects, special events * Direct working experience in professional services industry an asset (e.g. Law, H.R., legal, accounting, education, consulting sectors, etc.) * Superior project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives while maintaining a high level of performance and attention to detail Pay Range $150,000 to $180,000 per annum. The Manager of Student Programs oversees the recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of summer and articling students. This includes managing budgets, performance reviews, and diversity initiatives within the legal talent pipeline.

A law degree and undergraduate degree are preferred, along with required experience working in a law firm. Candidates should possess strong project management skills and professional development experience.
