Junior Mechanical Piping Take-Off Estimator Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) Construction Department: Estimating & Pre-Construction Reports To: Chief Estimator / Designated Senior Mentor Status: Full-Time in Office, Permanent Career Level: Junior (Entry-Level) Starting Salary: 65k Job Summary: The Junior Mechanical Piping Take-Off Estimator is an entry-level development role responsible for supporting the pre-construction team through the technical measurement and quantification of material assets. Working under the direct guidance of senior estimating staff, this individual will learn to analyze multi-discipline engineering blueprints, architectural plans, and mechanical specifications to generate foundational quantity take-offs for Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) mechanical projects. This position focuses heavily on developing mastery over complex HVAC piping, process piping, plumbing, and hydronic systems, directly accelerating the group's ability to produce competitive project bids. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Supported Take-Off Execution: Learn and apply specialized digital estimation tools to accurately measure and count pipe lengths, configurations, fittings, valves, and mechanical hanger structures. • Document Review: Assist in compiling, filtering, and organizing multi-discipline tender documents, including Drawings, mechanical layouts, and construction specifications. • Bill of Materials (BOM): Requesting and saving documents for review and input. • Drafting RFIs: Identify basic discrepancies in blueprints and draft formal technical Requests for Information (RFIs) for supervisor evaluation. • Subcontractor Outreach: Coordinate directly with material suppliers and specialty sub-trades under senior oversight to collect quotes for projects being tendered Required Qualifications & Skills • Education: Post-secondary Diploma or University Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a matching mechanical trade qualification. • Experience: 0–2 years of experience within pre-construction estimating, or an equivalent technical background gained through field-based mechanical apprenticeship programs. • Blueprint Literacy: Foundational knowledge in reading, navigating, and interpreting technical plans, section details, isometric diagrams, and schematics. • Software & Systems: Academic exposure or practical familiarity with digital takeoff applications (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, Accubid Trimble MEP) combined with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft office. • Mathematical Aptitude: High comfort level executing geometric, volumetric, and dimensional calculations swiftly with precise focus to detail.
