INDUSTRIAL METALS (2011) is seeking an experienced TRUCK AND TRAILER MECHANIC to join our repairs and maintenance team. Reporting to the Operations Manager (R&M), the Truck & Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers and related equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable and compliant with Manitoba transportation regulations. The ideal candidate has leadership capabilities, is a safety-focused individual with strong mechanical and diagnostic skills who can work independently while also contributing to a team environment DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers and related equipment Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems Inspect and repair braking systems, suspensions, steering, wheel ends and driveline components Perform engine, transmission, differential and colling system repairs as required Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems using appropriate diagnostic equipment Inspect and repair trailer systems, including lighting, brakes, suspension, landing gear, doors and related components Complete commercial vehicle inspections and repairs as required Perform routine serving, including oil changes, lubrications, filter replacement, and fluid checks Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend appropriate repairs or preventative maintenance Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts and labour Ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company policies and applicable Manitoba safety and transportation regulations Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area Work safely and follow all workplace health & safety procedures QUALIFICATIONS Truck and Trailer Mechanic certification (Red Seal Certification or Provincial equivalent) 5+ years of relevant truck & trailer maintenance experience Experience working on commercial trucks, trailers and other heavy-duty equipment Knowledge of Manitoba commercial vehicle safety requirements Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities Good communication and record-keeping skills Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship Deep understanding of engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and sophisticated electrical networks Background in electrical and hydraulic schematics is an asset Experience repairing air brakes, manual and automatic transmissions WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed in a repair & maintenance shop Must be available during core hours (7am-4:30pm) however a more flexible schedule can be negotiated May involve exposure to noise, dirt, fuel and other chemicals Safety equipment will be required (ie. steel toed boots) Overtime as required and necessary Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in harsh weather conditions PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift heavy parts up to 50 lbs Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, climb, crouch, stand and sit for extended periods of time in a shop environment Must be able to work at heights if and when necessary
