Role Description The GM in Training role at Loblaws Inc. is a full-time, on-site position located in Nanaimo, BC. This role focuses on learning all aspects of store operations, including inventory management, merchandising, staffing, and customer service, under the guidance of experienced leadership. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting department managers, monitoring sales and performance metrics, assisting with scheduling and labor planning, and ensuring compliance with company policies and health and safety standards. The GM in Training will help lead daily store routines such as opening and closing procedures, addressing customer inquiries and concerns, and maintaining a clean, organized, and engaging store environment. Over time, the role prepares the team member to independently manage store operations, drive sales growth, and foster a positive workplace culture. Qualifications Demonstrated leadership abilities, including coaching, team coordination, and supporting performance management. Strong customer service skills with a focus on resolving issues, building customer loyalty, and maintaining a welcoming store atmosphere. Basic business and retail operations knowledge, including sales tracking, inventory control, merchandising, and cash handling. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and interact confidently with customers. Solid organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing store needs. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by store operations. Previous retail, grocery, or supervisory experience is an asset, along with familiarity with point-of-sale and store management systems. High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, retail management, or a related field is considered an asset.
