Position Overview and Requirements Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Prevention Officer/Firefighter (FPO/FF) is responsible for providing fire safety code compliance services, inspections, public education on fire safety, development and implementation of a municipal inspection program and to investigate and determine fire cause. The FPO/FF will also assist and cooperate with the volunteer public education division team by developing, delivering, and evaluating public education programs throughout the community and provide fire public education training to various client groups. In addition, the FPO/FF will also be an operational firefighter responding to emergencies. Qualifications, Skills, Competencies and Knowledge: * Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent AND a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the fire * Possess NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 & 2 and NFPA 1072 or 472 Operations level. OFM “Grandfathering” will be accepted in lieu of IFSAC/Pro Board seals. * Must become qualified as an NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector II, NFPA 1035 Public Fire and Life Safety Educator Level II, and NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator. * NFPA 1002 Pump Ops Standard for Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5 Apparatus Equipped with Fire Pump or willingness to attain IFSAC/Pro Board seals or meets Reg. 343/22: Firefighter Certification. * NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I or willingness to attain, and willing to progress through to acquiring Level II. OFM “Grandfathering" will be accepted in lieu of IFSAC/Pro Board seals. * Successfully complete Russell Township Firefighter Physical * Must be willing to take required training courses which may be off site and outside of the Township. * Must be proficient in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite. * Possess and maintain, in good standing, a minimum Class “G” Driver’s Licence for the Province of Ontario with an acceptable driver’s abstract; willingness to obtain “DZ” Licence. * Possess First Responder BLS * Ability to provide a vulnerable sector * Provide a Medical Certificate – to be completed by Applicant’s Doctor. Language Requirements Excellent proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in either French or English. Proficiency in the second official language a strong asset. Compensation The salary is based on 40 hours a week and is set between $86,986 and $108,493 per year and must be available to be on an on-call rotation. The offer includes an excellent benefits package, a pension plan, as well as free access to the Sports Dome Training Centre.
