Job Status: Permanent Part-time Union: Non-Union Number of Positions: 2 Hours of Work: 8 Location: Various Chatham-Kent locations Reason for Vacancy: Replacement Closing Date: August 28, 2026 at 11:59pm EST. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has two openings for permanent part-time Recreation Leaders in the Parks, Recreation & Facilities division. This position works 8 hours per week. Job description The Recreation Leader facilitates various programming such as: camp, active games, skill building, creative and therapeutic activities for CKRecreation. Recreation Leaders will be required to actively supervise all program activities and may be required to modify activities to ensure age appropriateness. Recreation Leaders will also be required to assist in managing participant behaviours, communicating with parents as required and following policies and procedures in place relevant to the position. Essential responsibilities * Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies * Facilitate programs such as camp, active games (example: dodgeball, tag), crafts, music and stories, while maintaining a safe environment * Responsible for the clean-up and storage of all equipment * Enforce all administration policies and rules as well as all safety guidelines governing the program participants * Follow program plans with appropriate themes, crafts, games and music relative to the program * Effective communication with both the parents and participants of the program when issues and needs are identified * Work as a member of the CKRec team * Exercise discretion and confidentiality with parents, staff, children and management Essential qualifications * Preference will be given to those enrolled in or graduated from a related post-secondary education program * Because of the responsibilities of this position, candidates must be 16 years of age or older * Experience working with children and youth * Experience communicating with children, staff, parents in a child supervised environment * Basic computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program) Certifications, memberships, licenses * Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification (WSIB approved) * High Five: Principles of Healthy Child Development certification Work environment/hours of work * This position works both indoors and outdoors * This position works weekday, evening and weekend hours Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred. Background check requirements Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment. Essential physical and/or safety requirements * Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (kneeling, crouching, squatting while communicating with children; bending while preparing for activities; bending while cleaning up activities; bending while packing up materials) * Walking: frequent walking on rough surface; constant walking on level surface (walking throughout duration of program at program facility/park) * Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, backward, handling (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (reaching for program material for program set-up/ take down; -lifting participants in cases of emergencies) * Lifting: frequent lifting at shoulder, carrying, transferring; constant lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulders (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (lifting program material for program set-up/ take down; lifting participants in case of emergencies; lifting while cleaning after activities) * Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (standing while delivering programs; standing while preparing for activities; standing while cleaning) * Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement) (using hands to deliver programming; using hands for daily administrative tasks (filling in reports, attendance, log books, etc.) Benefits This permanent part-time position has an hourly wage of $18.03 will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act. ________ The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fair and accessible employment practices that attract and retain talented employees in a workplace that is inclusive, supportive, and reflective of the diverse community we serve.
