Competition #: 26-OC-103 Posting Date: August 24, 2026 Closing Date: September 6, 2026 ,Department: Corporate Governance and Legal Affairs Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Employment Tenure: Indeterminate Classification: L/N 5 Salary: $100,371 - $135,797 /Year Number of Positions: 1 Language Requirements: English CCC / French CCC (reading, writing, oral) (A: beginner, B: intermediate, C: advanced) Affiliation: Management Work Location: On-site, National Gallery of Canada, 380, Sussex Drive, Ottawa ---------------------------------------- Job Summary Under the direction and supervision of the Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of the Gallery, the successful candidate will ensure the Gallery’s compliance with applicable Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) laws and policies including the development of ATIP management framework, the processing of ATIP requests, the development of policies and guidelines, the provision of advice and training to Gallery staff, the monitoring of compliance, the preparation of annual reports to Parliament, the management of complaints and any other related tasks. The successful candidate will also provide legal advice, issue legal opinions and participate in the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements; coordinate certain mandates entrusted to external legal advisors; contribute to the development of standardized contract templates; participate in the continuous improvement of the Legal Affairs department's processes and procedures, including information management; provide in-house training as required; and support the department with other related duties. ---------------------------------------- Requirements * Member of the Law Society of Ontario * Minimum of three (3) years of experience administering and processing complex Access to Information and Privacy requests in a federal, provincial or territorial environment * Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing legal advice and support in commercial law matters, including contract review, drafting and negotiation (an asset). * Knowledge of the Access to Information Act, the Privacy Act, and related policies, guidelines and regulations, applicable exemptions and complaints process. * Knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and policy framework governing Crown corporations and an understanding of the cultural sector environment (an asset) Competencies * Commitment to high-quality work * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Strong organization and prioritization abilities * Ability to manage multiple competing priorities * Sound judgment, discretion and professionalism * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to work independently and collaboratively Condition of Employment * Must meet the bilingual requirement to be invited to the interview process. * Reliability Status - this factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. ---------------------------------------- Additional Information * A variety of assessment tools may be used to assess candidates. * Alternative selection tool methods and/or reasonable accommodation are available upon request. * Candidates are entitled to participate in the selection process in the official language of their choice. * Note: Applicants selected for interviews will receive email correspondence from the People, Culture and Belonging team at the National Gallery of Canada Values The National Gallery of Canada is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that values and celebrates the diverse life experiences, voices, and histories of all individuals. Candidates must be members of the Law Society of Ontario with at least three years of experience in administering complex ATIP requests. Experience in commercial law and knowledge of the legislative framework governing Crown corporations are also required or considered assets.
