About The Role This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your technical expertise contributes directly to the reliability of Oakville's electrical distribution system. As a Powerline Technician, you will work as part of a skilled team responsible for the construction, maintenance, restoration, and operation of Oakville Hydro's overhead and underground distribution systems. What You’ll Be Doing Build, maintain, and repair overhead energized primary and secondary distribution systems Construct, maintain, and troubleshoot underground distribution infrastructure including cables, terminations, and splices Install and maintain streetlighting systems Respond to emergency outages, standby assignments, and callouts Troubleshoot overhead and underground faults using system maps, field diagnostics, and industry best practices Install and replace utility poles including wood, concrete, steel, and fiberglass structures Install cables, complete system connections, and support distribution system expansion projects Maintain tools, equipment, and line vehicles to established safety and operational standards Support the development and training of Apprentice Powerline Technicians Assume Lead Powerline Technician responsibilities when required What You Bring Certified Journeyperson Powerline Technician Previous electrical utility experience Strong knowledge of IHSA Safe Work Practices and Electrical Utility Safety Rules Valid Ontario Class AZ licence, or valid G licence with ability to obtain DZ and AZ within required timelines Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces Ability to work shifts, standby rotations, weekends, and emergency callouts as required Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills What Success Looks Like Safety-first mindset in every task and decision Professional and customer-focused interactions with customers, contractors, and the public Strong teamwork and collaboration Technical expertise and sound judgment during planned and emergency work Commitment to mentoring apprentices and supporting continuous improvement Oakville Hydro is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
