Do you enjoy talking to people about their problems? In litigation, that’s something of a superpower. We’re looking for a Legal Assistant who can listen with empathy, ask the right questions, and help people navigate what can be a difficult situation. A significant part of this role is new client intake. You’ll speak with prospective clients, gather the information we need, and help determine what happens next. Between rings, you’ll support our litigation team with the day-to-day work that keeps files moving, with plenty of opportunity to learn, take on more responsibility, and grow into the role. This Role We are hiring a junior or intermediate Legal Assistant to join our litigation team, with a particular focus on new client intake. Some people will know exactly what they need. Others will start the story in 2007 and eventually get around to telling you why they called. You need to be comfortable with both. This role suits someone who genuinely likes people, is comfortable on the phone, asks good questions, and can be both empathetic and efficient. You’ll need to gather the important information, keep conversations moving, and make sure prospective clients have a great experience from the first “hello.” When you’re not handling intakes, you’ll provide support to our litigation team. What that looks like will depend somewhat on your experience. We’re happy to teach someone with the right aptitude and attitude, and there is plenty of room to take on more as you develop. What You’ll Be Responsible For Answering new client calls and responding to web inquiries, internal referrals and the occasional walk-in Gathering information from prospective clients and assisting with the intake process Scheduling consultations and verifying ID Maintaining bring-forward systems and following up on outstanding items Assisting with collections and general file administration Taking on additional responsibilities as your skills and experience grow Who We Think Will Be Successful This role tends to work well for someone who: Genuinely enjoys talking to people Doesn't dread when the cashier strikes up a conversation can listen to a long story and identify the information that actually matters; is warm and helpful while still keeping things moving; has strong organizational skills and attention to detail; communicates clearly and professionally; can juggle competing priorities without losing track of the details; and wants to learn and take on more responsibility over time. Previous law firm or Legal Assistant experience is an asset, but we’re open to different levels of experience for the right person. Completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal certificate program is an asset, as is the ability to communicate in Punjabi. And if you happen to have Family Law experience, that would be splendid. Hours & Location We are open to both full-time and part-time candidates, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. This role is based primarily in our Abbotsford office. There may be some flexibility depending on the successful candidate, their experience, and the hours worked.
