Ski Patroller

Ski Patrol As a Ski Patroller you will be working under the supervision of the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader, leading or helping with emergency situations both on the hill and around the premise. Nakiska hosts a variety of ski races each season and is the training mountain for many professional ski racing teams, as a ski patroller you are the ambassadors to the mountain and will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of safety and first aid treatment is provided for athletes, guests and staff. Primary Responsibilities Ensure guest and safety through identifying and mitigating hazards, maintaining all ski area signs, opening and closing runs, assessing and mitigating avalanche risk, compiling weather data, providing first aid, participating in rope rescues, locating missing persons within bounds and contributing to public education Ability to respond to all medical emergencies both on the mountain and premises, as well as lift-related emergencies. Provide necessary communication to all relevant parties during emergencies. Patient monitoring and paperwork once transported to the patrol hut. Monitor terrain conditions for skiing safety and racing potential and advise on run closures. Maintaining safety netting for accident prevention, as well as any signage and smaller netting in place around the mountain. Assisting with avalanche mitigation, this includes closing of trails, snow monitoring, ski cutting and explosive work when necessary. Ensuring all guests and staff adhere to the RCR/Nakiska safety guidelines and procedures while on the mountain. Qualifications Current 80-hour Advanced First Aid in outdoor emergency care. Advanced skiing ability in all levels of terrain, including black diamond steepness. Current Avalanche Skills Training 1 (AST 1) certificate is not required, but will be required before any participation in avalanche mitigation work can occur (This course may be available through ski patrol) Must have good physical fitness. Ability to be a supportive team member Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively and multitask under pressure. Experience in toboggan training or lift evacuation is considered an asset. Previous experience in any safety or related outdoor role, or risk management training, is considered an asset. Any other certificates, such as ropes training, rescue training etc., are considered an asset. Any familiarity with Nakiska Ski Resort is considered an asset. Candidates must possess an 80-hour Advanced First Aid certification and advanced skiing ability across all terrain levels. Physical fitness and the ability to work in adverse weather conditions are essential.
