Our team is committed to providing quality food, respectful customer service, safe food handling, and a welcoming environment that reflects the values of Shelly's Indigenous Bistro.Position SummaryThe Junior Cook / Prep Cook supports daily kitchen production by preparing ingredients, assisting with line execution, and maintaining cleanliness and organization. This role contributes to consistent food quality, proper sanitation practices, and efficient kitchen operations while developing culinary skills within Shelly's Indigenous Bistro.Core Responsibilities Prepare vegetables, proteins, sauces, and other ingredients Assist with line cooking and food assembly as directed Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation Restock ingredients and prep supplies at assigned stations Assist with inventory counts and stock organization as assigned Support catering preparation and packaging Maintain clean and organized prep and service stations Complete assigned cleaning tasks and sanitation checklists Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance concerns Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety regulations Promote safe, respectful, and efficient kitchen operations Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor Qualifications & Experience Previous kitchen or food service experience is an asset Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment Willingness to learn and take direction Strong attention to cleanliness and organization Training & Certification Requirements Manitoba Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it, is considered an asset WHMIS Certification is considered an asset but is not required Knowledge of Manitoba food safety regulations is an asset Ongoing food safety and operational training may be required What We Offer Competitive wages based on experience Hands-on culinary learning and skill development Supportive team environment Indigenous-owned and operated workplace Employee meal and discount programs, where applicable Employment Requirements & Working ConditionsThis position may be full-time or part-time based on operational needs. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak seasonal periods.A three-month probationary period applies.
