Our team is committed to providing quality food, respectful customer service, safe food handling, and a welcoming environment that reflects the values of Shelly's Indigenous Bistro.Position SummaryThe Short Line Cook supports the day-to-day operation of Shelly's Indigenous Bistro by completing food preparation, maintaining stocked and organized kitchen stations, supporting opening and closing procedures, and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are consistently followed.This position requires reliability, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.Core Responsibilities Complete daily food preparation according to operational needs Prepare ingredients, proteins, vegetables, sauces, and other menu components Follow standardized recipes, preparation procedures, and portion guidelines Stock and restock kitchen stations, ingredients, and supplies throughout the shift Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages or supply needs to the supervisor Properly store, label, date, and rotate food using FIFO procedures Complete assigned opening and closing duties Set up kitchen work areas and equipment for daily operations Ensure food is properly stored and kitchen areas are secured at closing Maintain clean, sanitary, and organized workstations Complete required cleaning and sanitation duties and checklists Follow proper food handling, temperature control, and cross-contamination prevention procedures Safely operate kitchen equipment and report equipment or maintenance concerns Assist with inventory organization and counts as required Support other kitchen staff and operational needs during busy periods Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety requirements and Shelly's Indigenous Bistro policies and procedures Promote a safe, respectful, organized, and efficient kitchen environment Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications & Experience Previous kitchen, restaurant, or food preparation experience preferred Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment is an asset Understanding of basic food preparation, sanitation, and food safety practices Ability to follow recipes, procedures, and instructions consistently Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to remain organized and productive in a fast-paced environment Reliable attendance and punctuality Training & Certification Requirements Manitoba Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it, is considered an asset WHMIS Certification is considered an asset but is not required Knowledge of Manitoba food safety requirements is an asset Additional food safety, workplace safety, and operational training may be required What We Offer Competitive wages based on experience Opportunities to build kitchen and food preparation skills Supportive team environment Indigenous-owned and operated workplace Employee meal and discount programs, where applicable Employment Requirements & Working ConditionsThis position may be full-time or part-time based on operational needs.
