Title: Controller Location: Port Coquitlam, BC Job Type: Salary Work schedule: Mon to Fri Position Summary: Reporting to the Controller III, this role is accountable for analysis of the financial and costing data for the Chicken and Turkey division with a focus on the Port Coquitlam and Abbotsford plants. This role is a critical member of Controller III’s team, driving continuous improvement across both financial as well as operational reporting. Excellence in routine processing / reporting will support value-added business partnership with the Plant Manager’s and operational leadership team. Play a key role in actively supporting the daily, weekly, monthly Continuous Improvement meetings supporting the Plant Manager in providing insights on results and identifying areas of focus. Also responsible for supporting in identifying continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities through Plant production floor walks. Working closely with Controller III, this role will ensure the accuracy of the financial statement close process, performance of internal controls (including account reconciliations), analysis and timely, insightful, action-oriented variance reporting and overall leading-edge financial support. Key Accountabilities: Operations Reporting: Identify opportunities to improve/expand plant reporting to enable better business decisions. Provide analysis and commentary to financial results. Support the month end financial statement close process. Identify and develop tools/reports to assist plant supervision in the management of their business units. Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations including those relating to, prepaid expenses, and AP accruals, and support payroll functions in Kronos with payroll supervision. Prepare ad hoc analysis as required by the Controller III, Sales, Plant Manager, Business Performance, and other departments. Actively participate in daily, weekly, monthly CI meetings providing insights on results and identifying areas of focus. Support in identifying areas of continuous improvement and cost reduction through a shop floor presence Business Case Modelling: Provide analysis to support plant decisions and finance (crewing patterns, capital acquisitions, return on investment, OH analysis, etc.) System Support / Integration: Provide recommendations for streamlining existing processes and system to help generate synergies between locations. Support testing and implementation of system improvements/changes Team Leadership: Ensure that the Accounting Staff have sufficient financial and support in automation and process improvements. Identifies and implements development opportunities for staff. Requirements: Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) Experience (5+ years) in similar/related role in a manufacturing environment (food industry an asset) Team player – will have direct influence over setting and achieving team and others individual objectives Excellent time management skills (ability to multi-task and manage tight deadlines and multiple customer demands) Strong communication, conflict resolution and analytical skills Strong systems master data experience. Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook); expert Excel skills What we have to Offer: Full benefits (health, dental, vision and disability.)
