The Behavioural Student reports to the Director of Care and in collaboration with the Director of Care and the Behavioural Support Manager/Lead. Supports the residents and staff in the management of responsive behaviours, and/or expressions of feelings in the comfort of the long-term care setting. Provides specialized care for people with responsive behaviours and expressed feelings that may be associated with dementia and older Adults with Mental Health Disorders. Responsibilities: * Supports residents by communicating with them using person-centered language to support meaningful connections and quality lived experience in the home. * Utilise therapeutic person-centered communication by establishing a meaningful connection with residents and co-workers for the purpose of meeting and surpassing the resident’s needs, ensuring dignity and respect, in care at all times and celebrating the individuality of each resident and staff members. * Participate with other team members in formulating, delivering, and reporting the daily resident care needs and preferences as per the individual’s person-centered plan of care and plan for the day. * Assisting the residents in the dining room during meal time. * Engaging with residents with responsive behaviours in activities of their interests. Qualifications: * Ability to work well with others in a team approach and adapt to changing situations. * Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary stressful environment. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and computer literacy. * Ability to work with diverse clients. * Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays. * To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction. * Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements. * Two supervisory references required. * Proficiency in spoken and written second language is preferred.
