The Behavioural Student reports to the Director of Care and in collaboration with the Director of Care and the Behavioural Support Manager/Lead. Supports the residents and staff in the management of responsive behaviours, and/or expressions of feelings in the comfort of the long-term care setting. Provides specialized care for people with responsive behaviours and expressed feelings that may be associated with dementia and older Adults with Mental Health Disorders. Responsibilities: * Supports residents by communicating with them using person-centered language to support meaningful connections and quality lived experience in the home. * Utilise therapeutic person-centered communication by establishing a meaningful connection with residents and co-workers for the purpose of meeting and surpassing the resident’s needs, ensuring dignity and respect, in care at all times and celebrating the individuality of each resident and staff members. * Participate with other team members in formulating, delivering, and reporting the daily resident care needs and preferences as per the individual’s person-centered plan of care and plan for the day. * Assisting the residents in the dining room during meal time. * Engaging with residents with responsive behaviours in activities of their interests. Qualifications: * Ability to work well with others in a team approach and adapt to changing situations. * Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary stressful environment. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and computer literacy. * Ability to work with diverse clients. * Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays. * To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction. * Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements. * Two supervisory references required. * Proficiency in spoken and written second language is preferred. The Behavioural Student supports residents with responsive behaviours and mental health disorders by fostering meaningful connections and providing person-centered care. They collaborate with the care team to implement daily care plans and assist with resident activities and meal times.

Candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work in a stressful, multidisciplinary environment. A valid Vulnerable Sector Check and the availability to work weekends and statutory holidays are mandatory.
