Clinical Extern (Occupational Therapy), Professional Practice

Professional Practice Parkwood Institute Main - London, ON Temporary Regular Part Time Salary Range: $20.60 - $20.60 /hour This is a temporary part-time position that is anticipated to extend until March 31, 2026, and is subject to the availability of work. Through a patient and family-centered approach, the Clinical Extern (occupational therapy) will work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of registered staff, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team as an unregulated care provider, to promote and advocate for wellness while ensuring the delivery of holistic, high quality and safe care to patients. This is an exciting opportunity for occupational therapy students to work in a clinical environment where they can develop their clinical skills and expertise, knowledge, and self-confidence as they prepare to transition into a regulated health professional. The Externs will work at one of the St. Joseph?s Health Care sites. Reporting to the Professional Practice Partnership Program, the Clinical Extern (occupational therapy) will work part-time hours. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on organizational needs and may include day, evening, and weekend shifts. The anticipated start: October 2026 Essential Qualifications Student in Occupational Therapy enrolled in an academically accredited Occupational Therapy post-secondary program. Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support Ability to work independently in patient care areas with direct and indirect supervision from a health professional Ability to aid with activities of daily living, ROM, mobility, and orientation under the supervision of a regulated health professional Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and the ability to work as part of a team Knowledge of a safety culture in a health care setting in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills Ability to apply effective body mechanics and lift and transfer skills to meet physical demands Effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills Teaching and Research St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Joseph's, you may be expected to engage in roles related to teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties Immunization Requirements Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza. Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing

The Clinical Extern provides holistic, high-quality care to patients under the supervision of registered staff. They collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote wellness and advocate for patient health.

Candidates must be students currently enrolled in an accredited Occupational Therapy program with a Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate. Proof of specific immunizations and tuberculosis skin testing is required.
